Need some help rooting

Well I am new to the android community and the Nexus S 4G is my first Android phone. I decided to root it earlier today with the how to guide, but I seem to be missing a step. I downloaded the Android SDK and in my "platform-tools" I don't have a file "fastboot oem unlock".

Basically I am stuck with an updated SDK manager, Pdanet installed, and recovery image set on the SD. Can anyone tell me where I can find the file I need to finish this?

It's not a file, it's a command you type.

When I type the command it just says "fastboot is not recognized as a command". I am really new to this stuff.

Did you download the superuser and recovery image files? You need more than just the SDK.

Did you change your directory in the command prompt to where your Sdk / platform-tools before you do the commands.

You may also need to go in your SDK and move the fastboot file from tools too platform-tools.

Yeah I'm in the platform tools in CMD, and that's where it tells me fastboot is not a valid command.

Alright I Finally got it to unlock, thanks to all who helped, I appreciate it!

I was having this same problem. The CMD message I was getting was: "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Moving the fastboot file from the SDK's tools folder to platform tools as suggested by igotsanevo4g fixed the issue. Thank you!

(Was keeping track of this thread and noticed beedip didn't mention what piece of help helped him out. Thought I would mention it.)
