I am getting very curious about rooting. Ive been putting it off for about 6 month since i got the phone. I have done some research and it seems confusing. I am pretty good with computers but this seems pretty difficult. (could be cause im affraid to brick my evo). I am looking for someone that can walk me through the process. I.E what to DL, where to move what files ect. Sorry for the dumb request. Just dont want to pay the insurance if i brick it. If anyones willing to help ill pm you my IM address. thanks in advance

Did you read the sticky? That's how I did it- and then if you get stuck people here will definitely help you. As far as bricking-- I was also afraid-- but if you follow the instructions for *your phone* you will be rooted.

No offence, but if you didn't need it six months ago... then surely you don't need it now.

Enjoy your phone.

unrevoked 3 is your easiest answer. Visit unrevoked.com, click on your device. Download the unrevoked 3 file. It will save to your computer as reflash_package. Plug your phone into your computer and run the exe file reflash_package. It does all the work for you and also flashes ClockworkMod recovery to your phone. Simple one click root. Any questions post back up or PM me.

You were worried about rooting at one point too, if he wants to root, let the man root!

To the OP.

Go to freds rooting guide, if your worried about bricking, don't. I've yet to see someone besides a developer or someone who got impatient during a radio update brick their phone. Its really hard to brick an evo, trust me.

So head to the guide and if you got any questions or hit any snags just post in there, fred knows his new rooting methods. Thats for sure.

Print the instructions out from these 2 guides or have them both open on your screen. That is how I did it last week. Also, post on the second thread if you run into an issue or have any problems and someone will reply to your question pretty quickly.

ok i printed those out along with one other from this thread. i greatly appreciate the help thus far.

The second link I posted in the reply is based off the instructions from the first link, but with screenshots so you can at least visually see what the instructions are talking about.

I'll be reading through them on my lunchbreak tomarrow. I am looking forward to rooting

If I were to get to a point while rooting that I need to go back to the original factory setting and software i can do that correct? I know there was/is a sticky on here for it but just wanted to make sure that was what I was reading

approx how long does it take to complete? i am using unrevoked now and its been on the pushing recovery for about 4-5 min

Great to hear. Don't forget to make a backup! And make sure anytime you flash a rom that you have atlease 40% of battery. Flashing can take a toll on your battery and if it dies during a flash you more than likely will have a $300 paper weight.

ok thanks for all the tips. Couple more questions.
1. As far as battery life, i can leave it plugged in during the install of themes correct?
2. I am looking for a theme and want to make sure that I am loading the correct one that is compatible with Cyanogenmod 6.1.2 (which i just finished Downloading using rom manager). Would this one be compatible-->[Theme/Mods] Konikub's Theme Collection (1-13-11) Evo Elite + GB Colored Menus!!! - xda-developers
3. When i load the zip file to sd card do i just DL it from the phone or use USB cable to load it to sd card?

Thanks again. I know these are noooooob questions just dont want that $300 paperweight
