Need to edit SMS text within phone

So... I added froyo to my captivate a few days ago, which deleted all of my sms messages that I had before. Long story short, I need to recreate one of those sms chains in my phone. My wife has requested to see one in particular because she believes that It is from a girlfriend (which honest to goodness, it is not), but to ease the explanation, I would like to rebuild that within the phone, so she can look at it. I have all the text times and dates, is this even possible????

I have never heard of something like this unless you backed-up your texts with some third-party app/tool

Yeah, I think you probably are up a creek without a paddle. However, how do you know the times and dates? Can you see some of the data somehow? If you did a factory reset as part of the upgrade, which is not unheard of, you are in trouble.

I would do a couple things to be sure, since the consequences are potentially so dire (headaches for a year!). First, I would get one of those SMS backup programs and use it to see if perhaps that can see the old data store, even if your new messaging program cannot. Likewise, I would install Handcent just to see if a third party app can manage to read the data. I would not think this would normally be deleted in an upgrade, but the Messaging app is new and with the reset being common...
