Need to transfer data from s4 with a unresponsive screen to new s7

Here is my problem. I have a s4 that powers up and receives calls and text but screen is unresponsive. I purchased a s7 today and when I try use use smart switch it says searching for content , then times out. I have some very important texts and pictures I need to retrieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried going into the store of your carrier ?
You should be able to get the pics out as long as you didn't have a password.
As for the text messages - that's gonna be a challenge..

No, no, no and no. The machine carriers use to transfer data runs a custom software layer over Windows. If you cannot unlock the phone, enable developer mode, allow ADB debugging and select "Allow" from the toast notification prompting you to do so, then the carrier cannot get anything off there.

Funtip: All things mentioned above require a functioning screen.

I've seen this work (because of a pre selected setting, and because your phone was previously plugged into that exact machine BEFORE a software update on EITHER device) maybe 1 out of 100 times.

Easy fix. Get a USB OTG cable plugged into the phone. Then plug in any USB mouse to the other end. A mouse icon will appear on the phone. You then can download smartswitch or whatever else you need to download to switch over the content. Hope this helps.
