Netflix dark

I've noticed since last night my Netflix android app plus back video very dark on my s9+. I've tried many shows and movies and all dark. I've tried to switch from night mode on/off and no difference on either. I've tried turning brightness settings to max but still dark.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app but no joy. Any suggestions?

Have you tried disabling Dynamic Mode in the Display Settings? I believe this bug was fixed, but it was, once upon a time, causing issues with HDR content...

I can't seem to find this setting in my display settings.

More background; It looks like this problem started after the Netflix app update yesterday morning. Could be a bug between that update and the most recent Samsung update I took a couple days ago?

More trouble shooting ... I uninstalled the latest version and I tried a couple older versions of the app but it didn't fix the issue. Video playback extremely dark despite brightness maxed out. I've also tried shutting off adaptive brightness and toggling between dark and light mode. Video is unwatchable. However, video from Youtube, news sites etc plays back perfectly. only video played back in Netflix app plays back dark. Any help would appreciated. Netflix help is useless.

It might not be as Dynamic now, it's under Display, Screen Mode, switch to 'Normal'. Also, if the feature was on the S9 (can't remember), disable Video Enhancer (In Settings, Advanced Features).

I tried all screen modes and also turned enhancer off but still has the issue.

Interesting finding during my experimenting .. trailers are playing fine within the app. When I click an actual show or movie though it plays back dark.

Netflix was down earlier so I'm not sure if this is related to the OP's issue

Not that it helps, but it seems to be a known bug (unfixed), and one that does affect the S9...

The users there seem to have 'fixed' the issue (at least for now) by using app version 4.12.2 Also, it seems it should only affect HDR titles, so anything that doesn't have that format should play fine (does it do that on yours?).

I've managed to have Netflix open up a ticket. One of the things they did in the trouble shooting was give me titles of some shows or movies to test to see of those played dark as well and they didn't. Unfortunately, I don't know how to determine which shows/movies are HDR titles but that's what they might have had me troubleshoot.

I'll keep the forum posted on the results of the Netflix ticket if they get back to me.

Thanks for posting that link SpookDroid.

That's easy to tell... When you're seeing the show or movie's info page, there's an HDR badge next to the year, rating, and duration ribbon below the title. Most Netflix (true) Originals from a couple years onwards are HDR. Some TV's have the same issue on Netflix, but on most TV's you can force them to turn HDR off and use the 'standard' version, which you can't do on phones.

Thank you.. Never noticed before. Cheers

Hi everyone. I am having the exact same issue with the latest Netflix app. I just got off the phone with customer support and they were absolutely no help at all. They asked me questions about my phone display settings, app display settings, etc. Even asked me if my brightness setting was turned all the way up right after I told them that my brightness setting was turned all the way up LOL. Anyway, their "resolution" was to use the browser. Give me a break.

Anyway, i downloaded the APK for version 4.12.2. This absolutely resolved the issue. Videos are bright as can be. So if you are having this issue, I suggest you bite the bullet, uninstall the previous version (for now) and find the APK. I don't want to post a link to an APK in case it doesn't work with your phone. However, do a simple search for "Netflix 4.12.2 APK" and you will find it.

I hope this helps someone...thanks!
