Netflix WORKS on the Optimus V!!!!

Along the same lines as editing build.prop to be able to run Netflix, can the same be done to get Adobe Flash Player to run on the Optimus V as well?

NO, flash does not work on the processor we have in our Optimus V, and it most likely never will.

I cannot download anything from the market after doing the build.prop edit. It says the item will be downloaded, and the download icon appears for a moment in the notification bar, then it dissapears. Not just the netflix app, I also tried downloading other apps, with the same result.

This happens when I change to either the Nexus build.prop or HTC Vision, nothing downloads from the market.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for someone else to fix things for me, I hate waiting on others! ;)

Edit: I just tried re-flashing gapps, wiped cache, and dalvik cache, still cannot download from the market, starts, then stops, but I can download other apps now.

See, Jerry... Why... Why you gotta remind me of that? Huh?! WHY?! :p

Great.
Now I need to be cheered up. Maybe sometime tonight mmarz will raise someone's Oppy from the dead or something...

I rebuilt the APK with the changes specified and re-signed, but it wouldn't work for me. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch and I got no errors throughout the process and the APK installed just fine, but when I run Netflix it just gives me a black screen.

This is on a bone stock Optimus V, stock Android 2.2.1, not rooted.

*EDIT* Nevermind, it has been done and it's already out there. Was bound to happen.

I don't know I have done everything. I edited the files I have recompiled and I have resigned and still get a parsing error. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know my brain hurts,

Same here, I just get a black screen after installing the modified apk. Running aospCMod 4/15 build.

I finally got it working! :)

I used the HTC Vision build.prop edit including the fingerprint, and googled for the apk, found it in an xda atrix forum, downloaded, installed, and I'm watching Joe's Apartment as I type this. :)

ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=tmobile
ro.product.name=vision
ro.product.device=vision
ro.product.board=vision

ro.product.manufacturer=HTC

ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/htc_vision/vision/vision:2.2/FRF91/277427:user/release-keys

Now I'm going to test which build.prop edits I can change back and retain functionality, I like Swype. Then I'll see if I can mod the apk to work with no build.prop edits, and without having to comment out anything. I would prefer as clean an install as possible, but I'm just glad to get it working.

For those concerned, I don't plan on using it over 3G, my 3G coverage is never good enough for that, but wifi is everywhere nowdays, and watching a movie or an episode of a tv show I like while waiting in some office will be cool.

Edit: Confirmed, only need the model and manufacturer to be changed to a supported phone. Good news on battery issues, it doesn't continue running in the background, no running services left behind.

Mine's working now. Found the already modified APK over on XDA.

Now I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to get rid of the green bar at the top. Other than that it works perfect on a stock unrooted phone.

The green bar in video is almost always associated with hardware acceleration. I don't know it there's anyway to check if hw acceleration is enabled on a stock phone, but I believe it can be enabled on some ROMs with another build.prop edit.

No green bar with aospCM7

I have noticed nearly every person with no green bar stated they are running aosp.

Yeah, toggling stagefright made no difference for me on bumblebee. Thinking about going back to asopCM7.

I've heard people mention hardware acceleration. Some people are also saying it's because stagefright is either on or off. But looking at it some more, it's not a solid green bar. It's mostly green but some parts are pink at times and it's not a solid bar. It seems to be changing either with the video or audio. I'm thinking it might be a codec or player problem.

This would kind of make sense if the ROMs that are fully working have additional video player software or codecs installed. I'm not familiar with aospCM7, do you know if it comes with any video player software or video codecs installed other than the stock Android video player?

I'm running Bumblebee ROM 1.19. I get a color shift on the streaming video (e.g. a green sign will be partially white on top with the green extending below the bottom of the sign), making it pretty hard to watch. And the green bar on top too.

I mention hardware acceleration because a green bar across the video is a known bug in the flash player on a PC as well, and is directly related to hardware acceleration.

aospCM7 has hardware acceleration enabled..

If you use the build.prop hack to get netflix working, you will not be able to update apps in the market. You will have to uninstall them, then re-install the newer version.

Nice. Can you provide the link to the modified apk on xda?

Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it.

As for hardware acceleration... I have no green bar up top running @864mhz aospCMod with a modified apk (no build.prop edit)

Once I changed my build.prop my Amazon App Market vanished as did Foursquare and Battle.net Authenticator. I could not get App Market back onto my phone. I changed back to my backed up build.prop and everything was back and working.

Will give this a try again, I never actually got the netflix apk onto my phone.

Use the modified apk. No build.prop edit required.
