Netflix WORKS on the Optimus V!!!!

I switched to the modified apk, and back to my original build.prop, and it's working perfectly. Even though I can't use some voip over 3g, I was able to stream without trouble over 3g when testing today, and wifi is perfect.

So is there no fix for the green bar yet? I'm using Harmonia. Do I have to use aospCM7 to remove the graphical glitch?

With Harmonia no matter what i tried I couldnt get rid of the green bar but with AOSP it was gone from the begining.

Netflix has library calls to stagefright. Even if it's disabled in build.prop, the netflix app will still use it, that's why you get the green bar and color issues. I'm looking into compiling the fixed stagefright source from GB for Froyo (that's why it works on aospCMod, it uses the fixed stagefright from GB). If I can get it to work, I'll include it in Bumblebee and post the files for others.

NO, flash does not work on the processor we have in our Optimus V, and it most likely never will.

See, Jerry... Why... Why you gotta remind me of that? Huh?! WHY?! :p

Great.
Now I need to be cheered up. Maybe sometime tonight mmarz will raise someone's Oppy from the dead or something...

there's hope, guys...
get_flash_videos, which lives on google code, works in debian on my v well enough to capture flash,
and its player tries to function through the VNC, but drops tons of frames because of the display overhead.
and, also, gnash (linux free flash alternative) won't play videos through the VNC but it will play flash ads.
someone savvy enough could mod get_flash_videos to pop up an Android window;
since it's not a browser plugin it calls its own window when used as a player.
I haven't gotten far enough yet in my new-language acquisition to write a SurfaceFlinger based app to supplement Xwindows.
sorry to get off topic, if anyone wants to discuss flash on debian for the v maybe we can open a new thread.

on topic:
this thread makes it possible that we'll buy a Netflix subscription now, where we wouldn't have otherwise.
makes me wonder, too, why they don't open their app deliberately to any device which can run it, just for the added customer base...

They will open it to any device that it works on. However, they will only test it on the stock ROMs, and the stock ROM for the Optimus V doesn't work well (green bar, etc).

If they opened it to anyone who could get it partially working, their customer service lines would be swamped with frustrated users asking how to remove the green bar.

That would be awesome. Above and beyond the call of duty.

Just FYI...

I downloaded the modified version from the 'other' forum onto a rooted stock VM670. It worked but had the green bar. I factory wiped and installed the aospCM 20110516 for the VM670 and now Netflix works great! Slightly laggy (my network), but well enough!

Updated apk (com.netflix.mediaclient-2.apk is the updated 1.2.1 store apk) is working for me (with the green bar at the top, but working) on Bumblebee ROM. None of others previously available would play.

By the way you dont need to change all the mentioned lines as per the first post in build.prop. You need to change only one line:
-----------
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
-----------

Morchus

On Reborn ROM changing only that line did nnt stop me getting the error that my device wasnt supported.

You can save yourself the trouble of changing the code yourself and just download from xda
I think this has been posted before. This is just convenient for someone new navigating to this page.
I also don't have that green bar everyone is talking about and I'm running the latest version of aosp

Actually I just edited all the lines to make my phone look like a HTC vision on tmobile and was able to just download the netflix app from the market. Then copied my original build.prop back and was then able to watch without a problem but with the green bar of course.
