Network Unlock

Would like to unlock my HTC One M7 from ATT but cannot get an unlock code due to account problems. Any other way to do so? Is unlocking required for rooting?

If you want to root, you do not need to carrier unlock, you need to unlock the bootloader. Those are completely different things.
