New CES Phones

This is likely a dummy question, but does the Xoom have the ability to make cell calls? Looking briefly at the specs, it doesn't seem likely.

In that case, what is the difference between carrying a small laptop with its own Wifi access PLUS a standard cell phone? Are we headed away from the smartphone toward separate entities (again)?

Guess I'm having a hard time understanding the appeal of a tablet. If you take a look at their accessories, first out of the chute is a case with a hinged cover to protect the screen. One very sleek all-aluminum case even has an integral bluetooth keyboard. Looks mighty like a laptop to me... or maybe a netbook on steroids.

Is the future of phone communication headed toward total use of internet connections or 4G rather than wireless as we know it?

lol our network's data speeds are much slower than both Att and Tmo. And we can't even do simultaneous voice and data, not to mention no SIM card swapping for phones.

I love my Verizon service but GSM is just way better than CDMA. CDMA beats them in coverage but i envy those with good GSM service.

Getting back to phones, I'm sticking with my X until we get something with stock Android released. All these blur, sense, and touchwiz phones will be outdated in 6 months due to their skins. Come on Google!! Bring the nexus to Verizon. I don't wanna buy a phone that will be stuck on Gingerbread until almost 2012.

Yes, ATT's transmission rate is clocked higher however what good is speed if you do not have a highway (bandwidth) built to handle the traffic? Just ask those "I" users. With VZ's network being so robust the data does not experience traffic jams unlike ATT. So VZW can pass MORE data, quicker, to the end user. And is TMO's network even relevant to anyone? How many subscribers do they have 6???

I love my droid x and im not giving it up just yet. LTE isn't even in my area yet so I have no need to jump shift to a new phone.

I will back that up...depending on where you live though. Out here in NY AT&Ts service is horrible while Verizon & Sprint would be the leading contenders. Problem is though....many people blame AT&Ts bad service due to the congestion from all the iPhone users. I know a lot of people are waiting to leave AT&T once Verizon gets the iPhone. Will the same thing happen to Verizons network now? I certainly hope not. Let AT&T keep the iPhone. We don't need it.
....and I think its more like 5 people use TMobile.:p

Anyways.....back on topic.

I'm with you. I hope the VZ network can handle that device it doesn't need! And I stand corrected on the TMO subscriber count...lol

So far still happy with my phones even more so since both are rooted/custom rom /theme. I got the dinc at begining of july 2010, and dx mid july 2010.
Going sit the first round of "Any LTE Phone" out ,although vzw emailed me saying I was due for an upgrade on one of my phones right now. (dx).

I am in a LTE area tho LTE will be available to about 95% of my local traveling.
