Perhaps if we can get enough people to write to Verizon Wireless and complain, we can keep the unlimited data package. It worked when they forced us to have the stupid data package on non-smart phones, so maybe we can get lucky.

I wrote to them and said that I am going to cancel their service when my contract is up for renewal.

Doubt verizon gives two ****s if people complain. People have been complaining for years and they aren't going to change. It's all about the $$$

They replied to me and called me:
Good Afternoon Mr. Mack ,

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is (removed to protect identity), and I am happy to assist you regarding the release of our new data plans. I can certainly understand your concern with the release of the new data plans and how they will effect your data usage.

As you already know, Verizon Wireless is making some minor changes to data plans including those for new Smartphone customers. Unfortunately, we will be moving to a more usage based model in July. Please be assured, this change will not effect your current contract and may** apply when you upgrade.

**A this time, we do not have information on how this will effect our current customers when they upgrade.

Verizon is excited about the variety of data pricing options we offer, allowing our customers flexibility and choice. While we do not discuss potential future pricing offers, I'd be happy to assist you with current pricing options on your account.

Mr. Mack , your comments have been forwarded to our Marketing department for review and consideration. Your feedback provides us with the perfect opportunity to hear exactly what you think, and often leads to improvements you will see in the future.

Mr. Mack , I hope the information that I have provided regarding the release of our new data plans is helpful. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to assist you today. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this email.

Thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless, we appreciate your business. Have a good day.

Sincerely,

(removed)

Verizon Wireless Customer Service

They forced data packages on us last time, and when everyone complained they stopped forcing it. So it doesn't hurt to try!!

Since you don't know what your talking about, let me fill you in. You will be able to keep unlimited if you currently have it, therefore they are not forcing you into anything and they will not be changing anything for existing customers prior to 07/07. Only new customers after 07/07 will have to choose the new data plans and with that being the case, they will have the option of not getting it at all.

I don't know what I'm talking about? Yes I perfectly understand I am grandfathered in but I am leaving for deployment right when my renewal is up, which I won't be doing since I will be gone for a good year or two.

Either way, Verizon DID force a data package on everyone and people DID complain and that is no longer a requirement: Verizon forcing data plans - Verizon Wireless Community

Either way, this is a bad decision on Verizon's part.

That was for new purchases, they were not going back and making existing costumers add data plans randomly or for updates. If it didn't require the data plan when you bought it you were never forced to add one. .

I know they have some thing in contracts for people in service, like put your contract on hold while your away, etc.. you might want to ask them about that. If not maybe keep the plan, and get a global phone and take it with you!

They aren't going to care if 20 or 100 of us write and complain. Its not going to make them revert back to the old system. I complain to them every chance I get about the new international data plans, and they always say that they understand my concerns and will note/forward them, but in reality, I know they aren't making it past the person I'm talking to and they don't really care to start with. But its at least a little cathartic to complain to them while I have them on the phone.

when my plan expires i'm probably going to end up moving to omaha or lincoln where sprint is hanging out in nebraska. that's still a year away, though.
