New droid 2.1 update rolling out!

Seems to be a very sporadic thing. 3 of my friends with Droids have not received a notification either.

Whatever I'm sick of this android system update drama. I would have gotten the Verizon Nexus One just for the quick updates (hardware improvements would be a +).

Oh wait.

Is this thread really still open? I thought it was agreed that this was just a full version of the 2.1 update.

just did manual update and i see no difference oh well if it did something cool if not it just made me do it again lol

I haven't read every response on all five pages that currently make up this topic, but I want to say that my navigation now works where it hadn't worked before as a result of updating to the 2.1 patch. Shortly after updating to 2.1, it would display a never ending "searching for gps" message at the bottom.

Now a GPS signal is found instantly...before it even finishes loading the map directions. Navigation is a key reason for me paying big bucks every month to have this phone and I'm glad to have it back.

Hey, since this is still open, I did a little experiment.

Using SPRecovery and DM Updater I got my phone back to stock 2.0.1 with NO ROOT.

It prompted me to update to 2.1 OTA; when I looked at the details it was a 60+MB file as opposed to the 15(ish)MB that originally rolled out.

So I updated to 2.1 using this new full image OTA. I just attempted to flash SBRecovery with RSD Lite and it was a 100% success with no failures.

Hope this satisfies peoples concerns.

so this update allows people to illegally root their phones from the 2.1 software is what your saying?

Rooting isn't illegal. It breaks warranty but it is not illegal.

It just doesn't block the SPRrecovery method of obtaining root many people are using which was the concern of many people on this site. It doesn't really "allow" it but it doesn't prevent it either.
