New EVO Battery Life Sticky: Please Contribute

What kind of battery life are you getting?

Just like the title says, what's your battery life like. I usually go about 15 to 20 hours.

i usually get 12-15 hrs with listening to radio, stocks, news, alot of texts and moderate phone usage, but im not rooted so i guess thats pretty good, but if i play games my battery is gone quick too quick. i think im gonna try rooting soon, been hearing its the way to go

That is about the same as myself(16-20hrs). Before cm7 nightlies came out I got a 44 hrs on cm 6.1.1. Mostly due to the fact I was constantly busy and didn't do much on my phone. But I'm happy with around 20 hrs of life

i have a quik question about rooting. what is the best to go with to get best battery life and still have about 90% of stock things on the phone ? thanks

I get about 15 hours with music, Phone calls, Text, and Internet :D

Im pretty happy with that but im pretty sure it would be better if i used CM 6

WOW! I'm impressed to the EVO user who was not rooted x)
Well, I'm not rooted either (but from time to time, I temp root
for screen shot purposes) and with non stop use, I get about 4hours
of battery life in continuous browsing, downloading/installing apps, etc xP
Might as well root my phone sooooooon ^^ S:-[itty Battery Life xD

Yeah night and day difference with battery life on a rooted vs stock phone. Stock I was lucky to make it 5-6 hours before getting below 20%. I could never go back for that reason alone.

There are Sense ROMs that are similar to stock.

Sprint Lovers - Sense based ROM that has some of the bloat removed (can run setCPU to lower idle CPU usage)
Calkulin's EViO 2 - Sense HD based ROM (further refined pre-installed CPU & voltage management kernel)
Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo - A popular Sense ROM that is a bit more of a deviation from stock. (I can't personally vouch for battery life)

You also have the variable of running a different kernel for other performance benefits.

I don't even try to measure my battery life. I unplug it at 6:30 am or so and plug it on my travel charger from around 7:30 until 8:15 while I listen to WEEI out of Boston via TuneIn Radio. Then, I go to my office and charge the phone again around 11:30 or 12:00 when I get down to about 60%. I will then top it off around 4:00 PM to make sure I have a full battery so I can browse the web instead of talking to the wife after dinner.

I think if I was your wife I would throw your EVO against the wall. Haha.

Redsoxfan... that was hilarious!

Monday - Friday, I avg. around 14 hours. This is only achieved by toggling my data on/off as needed. On weekends, my results mirror what an earlier poster said... about 4 hours if used continually (web browsing, downloading, streaming media, etc)

missjenell are you stock or rooted ? if rooted...what are you running to get the time that you get

I get 6 or 7 hours moderate browsing moderate facebook moderate text message. Wanted to root but ran into problems with my command prompt so I gave up for now lol

Thats a lot of charging for one day which will mess up the battery sooner or later

Actually no it wont, stock battery is a lithium ion which doesn't have a memory like the old ni-cad and nimh batteries did. I have been into rc racing for quite a while and in the past few years we have swithced to lipo and li-ion with the BIGGEST benefit being the constant charge/discharge cycle not damaging the batteries. Have fun and charge away.

Not only will it not hurt the battery, it will actually help it last longer.

Li batteries do not like being fully discharged (or even close to it), or charged to 100% capacity, on a frequent basis.

Electric cars, like the Volt and the Leaf, keep the battery between about 25% and 75% charge under most operating conditions to prolong battery lifespan for just this reason.

The stock charging circuit in our phones prevents overcharging, unless you do the "bump charging" thing, which really is bad for your battery. Charging it multiple times during the day, to less than 100%, prevents the heavily discharged problem.
