New Firmware Pushed This Morning

My phone has gone to hell since I updated it. Plus the one big connectivity issue I wanted fixed (bluetooth to vehicle) wasn't.

How do you run the phone in safe mode?

-Frank

To run it in safe mode hold the volume down button while phone boots. It takes a minute but it will say safe mode in the lower left corner of screen. However it boots the phone without any third party apps. Seems to be working so far. Thought is then you just have to find with app is causing the shutdown issues. Been about 18 hours since last reboot.

Thank you. V-e-l-l-y Interesting! :)

In everyone's opinion, is the Thunderbolt the best android platform phone currently available, or if not, which one is in your opinion?

Everytime I check for an update it keeps telling me Service Unavailable: Check for Service Update Under Settings when service is available
Same problem here in Arizona. I was really looking forward to this update because I have to reboot my TBolt almost every time I change locations if I want to do anything that uses data (which is pretty much anything other than make phone calls.) The phone works well only on 4G, which means that it's useless for data at our home which still has only 3G service.

Although, with all of the negative comments here on the update, I don't have great confidence that the update will fix the problem. And I worry that it may make things worse.

Here is Verizon Wireless' Customer Service response today to my email concerning not being able to get the update:

"As is typical for Android devices, the manufacturer is rolling out the software update in batches, making it available for a limited number of devices at a time. Since this is controlled by the manufacturer, I do not have a release schedule for when it will be available to your device. When it is available, however, you will automatically receive a notification on your device along with a direct link to start the update process."

I must say that I am very disappointed with both Verizon and HTC for not identifying and fixing this problem before the phone was even released, releasing what appears to be an insufficiently tested update and way they are currently handling the situation.

This OTA not so hot!

Since the OTA on Friday, my 3G data connection has become unstable and experienced 2 reboots today, both times when running a foreground program that uses the GPS. Battery life does seem noticeably better and the GPS does start much faster but I can sure live without poor 3G and the reboots! Not off to a good start with the Thunderbolt!

Still no update for me. I have gotten twice in the past few days the unavailable error and that's about it. Not having CM7 yet, or netflix and as well updates promised. I am little unpleased with the phone at the moment. The HTC Thunderbolt is still good phone just tired of the overall theme phone is waiting.

I see an update available for my Thunderbolt, but after reading these posts, I'm afraid to download this! My Thunderbolt works pretty well, other than below average battery life, and sometimes having difficulty getting GPS fix, everything else works well. I'm afraid this new firmware might screw up my Bolt. Should I download this??

No. Unless you had the ability to revert back to stock I wouldn't do it.

My Tbolt has been awesome before update and so far even better after. GPS works better. Battery last longer. Also, it draws less power while idle.

still no update for me. I have it rooted with bamf 1.6.3 but my baseband version is still 1.16.00.0223r

I would assume i should at least see the update?

got my update during the last week, no restart problems, and not a huge noticable difference, but nothing wrong either. i do seem to have the 3G icon a lot more now, though.

Can't Update

I'm not sure I even want this update after all the problems but why can't I get it? I go to settings/software update/check new... When I do that it checks for updates then goes back to the main software update screen. When I hit status all that is listed is Source: Verizon Wireless the rest is blank is that normal? Any help?

How do I know if I received the update? I UNROOTED my phone, did the OTA update, then rooted again. My Baseband reads 1.16.00.0223r so it doesn't seem to have updated. I'm positive the phone was updated properly before I rooted again. Did rooting and putting BAMF 1.63 on it un-update the phone or something?

Hi everyone, here's an update:

So this evening I mustered up enough guts to install the new update. My Bolt now has the latest firmware. Everything installed properly. My Bolt didn't blow up. Everything seems to still work okay, but I need more time to test out the alleged fixes. So far, I really don't notice any difference, but time will tell.

IMO if you have not installed the update don't. I had ok battery life but no other problems until after the update. Now constant random reboots and data connectivity issues. This is completely unacceptable. How HTC could have pushed this update out is beyond any common sense. People depend on their phone and this is just plain stupidity on HTC's part to have let this happen. :(

I've now had this new firmware for the past 24 hours. I swear I don't notice anything new or different. I mean absolutely zero difference. Am I missing something??

Totally agree, if anything phone is even worse. Rebooting, GPS won't hardly even lock on at all, and I sure am glad to have the weather for Honolulu when i live in the NW.
