new g6 . . just not feeling it . . ?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...reen-aspect-ratio-mathematics-galaxy-s8-lg-g6

Not a lot larger than the 5.0 inch Pixel. Closer to a 5.2 maybe 5.3 inch 16.9 phone. However back to the OP original feelings, yes, the phones screen area feels more like one of your "smaller" phones.
Again, I'm not dissing the G6, the 2.1 aspect ratio is most likely the upcoming wave for a few years. We just need to understand that a given screen diag measurement on a 18.9 new phone is going to produce a smaller total screen area than the same screen diag measurement on a 16.9 aspect ratio phone. :-p
These are the numbers the verge comes up with using the Galaxy s8, pixel, and hypothetical 5.8 inch phone:

5" 16:9 = 68.95cm²
5.8" 18.2:9 = 85.12cm²
5.8" 16:9 = 92.16cm²

According to those numbers the S8 is roughly 16 square centimeters larger than the pixel and only 7 square centimeters smaller than the hypothetical 5.8 inch phone.

The G6 has roughly the same screen area as a 5.5 inch 16:9 screen.

Nova Launcher did the trick, found exactly the settings I was looking for to make it act the way I wanted! Much happier camper at this point. . .

I'll be detailed here in case anyone is having the same 'issue' . . for a third party launcher to use knock on/off it needs admin privileges, but if you give it admin privileges you lose the option to unlock with the fingerprint scanner. So Nova has a way of blacking out the screen when you knock twice, but then it waits for the screen to time out behind the scenes, thus producing the knock off effect and not needing admin privileges therefore preserving the option to unlock with fingerprint . . somebody there knew exactly what was needed and made it happen . . Kudos Nova! =)

Sweet! I'm glad you found a solution!

This is one of the many reasons Nova is so popular!

I'm sure you already did, but did you check if the camera has a film over it? Sometimes it can be hard to tell

Well, I doesn't look like I can edit my title, but I now very much like this phone and will be keeping it. I guess I've learned about myself that I just need time to adjust to new things and should allow sufficient time for that.

Great phone! =) . . And if you're reading this because your 'not feeling it' either, I'd say give it some time, use it, work through the adjustments, you may learn to love it as I have.

I'm so glad you are liking your G6! Yay!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. This is what I like so much about android, if theres something software wise I dont like its usually handled with a different launcher or app.

As for the camera scratches, its definitely a coating and Ive noticed I have one very faint scratch away from my lens. Ive just ordered a dbrand camera lens skin but eventually will use the rubbing compound to remove the lens coating.

The screen size is definitely different but I have grown to really like it and appreciate what it offers.

The only thing LG needs to do really soon is get 7.1.1 released

I have numerous scratches, some criss-crossing right across the front of the aperture :( I cant tell if its having a negative impact on photos or not, but I'm a little nervous to try this rubbing compound thing. I mean, the pictures look mostly fine, but when I zoom in the image looks digitally "smudgy". Maybe that's normal, I have to admit I don't know whats a reasonable expectation, I've heard the camera is awesome so maybe I'm expecting too much? I guess what I'm saying is that for what I'm used to the pictures are fine, but I'd hate to find out they could be so much better if I didn't have the scratches (sheesh, I'm really meandering today :/)

I'm still using an iPhone 7 as my primary device. I can't stand how long it takes manufacturers and carriers to release OS and security updates for Android devices. If it weren't for that, the G6 would be my daily driver without hesitation, and this is exactly why. iOS needs to copy Android on this point and allow me to select my own default apps. I'd replace Safari instantly if they'd allow it, but they don't, of course.

I'm cautiously optimistic on this point. T-Mobile and LG have been slow to release OS updates to their flagship phones in previous years.

I'm now absolutely loving this phone and am glad I stuck with it =D

I got this case for everyday and it's perfect for me . . . (hmm, won't let me cut and paste Amazon link?) Its a smoke black Ringke Air . .

and for heavier duty I got the UAG Plasma Ice, feels great, adds width but doesn't feel bulky.

Love both cases (and w/o case, of course ;-)

Normally I hate it when people get a new phone then come on the forum to rag about how they don't like it . . I guess that makes me a hypocrite.

I really want to love this phone but I just keep running into weird (imo) quirks of the LG skin that I'm just not used to coming from all my previous phones being mostly stock android.

This morning I realized that if I restart my phone it erases the battery stats and starts over; I had 78% battery and went in to check my screen on time, it said 3 minutes, so the only way to get accurate battery stats is to never shut your phone off or restart? My motos and even blackberry priv allowed me to choose a time period for stat history.

Anyway, dumb and insignificant I know, certainly not a deal breaker, but the accumulated effect of these quirky little things has me ready to return it. Maybe I just need more time to get used to it and it will become the new normal.

Sorry for the hypocritical rant, many things I love about the phone, but just struggling with the skin.

Edit/add . . btw I have had the phone 2 days and the camera glass is all scratched to heck, and I baby my phones, only in and out,of a pocket with nothing in it, I swear it scratched trying to clean it with a microfiber cloth too . . I thought this was gorilla glass?

Perhaps now you'll have a better appreciation for others who may have problems with their device and understand that just because your mobile is fine doesn't mean that others may not have legitimate issues. Lesson well learned. It's always different once it hits home.

True but now he loves the phone
