New HTC One M9 Image leak

Totally agree. If they come out with a slightly changed M8 they'll go out of business. Won't happen...no way. The M8 was an excellent phone that looked dorky, it lagged behind it's competitors, they won't repeat that design for the 3rd year in a row. Upleaks just fell to joke status.

I agree - too risky to do something like this. Heck, Samsung better do something with the S6 - they are getting old with their design (or lack of) too.

They've got that whole Edge thing going now, definitely makes an interesting change to their design, even if I don't exactly buy it. Besides, they pretty much own the market, so apparently whatever they're doing, they're doing it right...

Maybe HTC made fake leaks, it can be quite possible considering the earlier rumors. This is going to be a deciding moment for upleaks if he gets this right, but by going with history, evleaks is going to be right. HTC may surprise us, and both evleaks and upleaks could be wrong, Sunday will tell all.

I'd like to believe that theory, but making fake images/videos to this extent?

Made fake promotional images and sent them to retailers?
Made fake promotional posters for upleaks to leak?
Made fake promotional videos, showing new features of Sense 7?

All fake and all to put us off the scent? That's quite a lot of work for something to be fake. Money and resources spent just for fake images/media?

I find that way too hard to believe. I think (unfortunately) that this One M9 design is what it'll look like on March 1. I'm as disappointed as anyone. I was really looking forward to that evleaks design.

I'm sure evleaks feels bad too, seeing as he's a reputable leaker and he was pretty adamant that his design would be the real deal, making posts on various websites discussing it.

You know, it applies both ways. Either one set of renders is fake or the other one is. So either way, yeah all fake and all to put leakers and us off the scent.

What do you mean one set of renders is fake?

The only other render was evleaks render, which was a single image, and that could have been whipped up by anyone. It's not like there was a full set of images and videos with a phone that looked like evleaks render.

I'd love for HTC to make us all look like fools, but the extent of all these leaks. The images, the videos - I can't believe it's all fake.

I don't think HTC is necessarily leaking out a bunch of fake stuff to throw people off the scent; if the leaks are wrong then they simply wouldn't care and let it keep coming. The retailer pictures could very easily be mock ups or placeholders that the retailers themselves put out there, I'm not sure if case makers see the final product before hand or just get dimensions, but if they have access to the final product I'd think there is a rather hefty NDA that has been agreed to. The videos could very well be early marketing demos/mock ups since software and internals can be locked in long before the design is finalized and HTC made sure they were yanked because it showed off finalized software features. The videos didn't seem all that 'polished' either. I know the company I work for will show off 'pre production' products to us upwards of 6 months before public launch, with full advertisements and website product renders, only for it change before manufacturing. It's rather annoying really.

For a company that prides itself on design and declared 'Let them stare' when it announced the new One was coming, literately copy and pasting the exact same design (Bezels, HTC bar and all) with a changed camera seems more then odd. Then again what do I know, other then I'll be twitcy and wacthing for the frist sign of news on Sunday. :p

upleaks twitter account appears to be deleted. Something is fishy.

I don't think HTC would have gone ahead and made marketing material if the hardware design wasn't final. They put a lot of effort into that video, making 3D render spinning around, adding the silver and gold colours, closeups etc. That's not done on non-final hardware. Seriously doubt upper management would have said 'here's a prototype that might not be the final design - go ahead and use the marketing budget to make renders for retails sites, posters, videos etc'.

I've personally never heard of it, but I guess that's a possibility. But the fact that the renders were sent out to retail stores suggests to me they're real.

Agree that it really doesn't make sense. They sent out invites for their MWC launch a month and a half early, they teased 'let them stare' and 'BIG things coming for HTC' and all it'll be is a rehashed One M8?

But the marketing teams job is to hype up whatever product HTC is going to sell. Even if it is the same as last years device.

Probably got hit with a cease and desist.

I agree fully with you as I too have seen changes made in products even after videos and posters are made. It's annoying at best.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, case makers don't just get dimensions. They get a block in the shape of the phone with the exact dimensions so a mold can be made from it.

The videos could also very well be showing proof of concept (or whatever it's called) for software features. It seems to me that the phones in the videos aren't running what the video is showing, it's been computer generated and slapped onto the phone in the videos. The only one that stands out is the 'into' video one, but even that could be some advertising made early in development. Depending on when HTC finalized the design the marketing team could have had to use the M8 like design to show 'Hey, this is what we are thinking the ad should be like, do you like it?.' If HTC is like most other companies there is an insufferable level of approvals that have to happen for marketing stuff and it gets started really early, which is why I'd guess they budget some money to burn on stuff like that.

The retailers could also just made something up to slap on their websites, Spigen has a totally different render on their site after all, and I'd venture that the only people outside of HTC that know the true design are the carriers.

At this point we could come up with 50 different reasons for what the leaks show and won't until know until the 1st.. At the very least it'll turn a boring Sunday into a fun one.

I worked in marketing for a huge company that I'm sure you know. I was in charge of mostly the stills (photos) but videos were also made of non finalised products mostly to get the "ok" from upper management that the points they were looking for got across within the ad or video. Mockups, placeholders, and such were used all the time in non finalized advertising.

After all, we have to make a pitch first to the people in charge before we ever make the final video. Then corrections are done or we repitch a new idea if they didn't like what they saw. It happens all the time and is quite normal.

I really hope you're right, and this stuff was all made as early promo stuff. Really, really hope you're right dude.

I would love for that evleaks render to be the final design. I'm just seeing too much stuff from the other side.

I'd recon we might get a cross between the two. Spigen is showing the speakers as a small slit at the very bottom of the phone, which seems like something HTC would tell/show the case makers since the case couldn't cover up the speaker, and Spigen seems big enough to at least know something like that. Even the M8 had a chunk of space below the speaker that those renders don't show. It may not look exactly like the evleaks render, but I'm hopeful we'll see some sort of bezel/speaker change.

Evleaks said that Spigen made those renders just based off evleaks picture: https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/570080328225849344

I think case designers just get the dimensions, and Spigen just filled in the blank off evleaks pic.

Seriously, just wait til Sunday. All will be revealed then. It's pointless to be disappointed before an official announcement...

It's over. Former HTC product manager confirms that is the phone: http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...says-former-HTC-product-manager-Momii_id66376

That's a shame. So much for utopia in progress and let them stare.

I'm going to say it like this (and this comment is coming from a long time HTC fan)...

With no guarantee that the 20mp rear camera will be better in bright light (nor low light as well), no confirmation on OIS regardless that they were one of the first to have it on a flagship phone that shipped worldwide.

Do they really expect me or any m8 owner to buy this when at best it now has home screens based on gps and louder non-redesigned boomsound speakers?
OK, the speakers also have Dolby Audio.
And unless I'm traveling and not where I live and work, do I really need food suggestions (and I'm a foodie as well as an amateur chef, but with my income and my expenses, even red lobster is out of the question most of the year)? And how do they know my taste and budget? Is it going to be like blinkfeed and I'll have to input my taste and budget? Do I really need to know that there is a KFC or 5 guys near by when I'm at home or work? Isn't that what Google is for if I'm lost or on vacation?

But really, do they expect me to shell out my hard earned money for this?

I already have the option of multiple home screens. And do you know anyone who wishes they could have different home screens once they are at work or home?

And while there is nothing wrong with Dolby Audio being added to much louder speakers, I already have to play most videos and games at home at half volume or I'll distract my family who are watching or doing something else. It's already loud, but this isn't a bad idea when outside or in a noisy environment.

I also took a peek at that extra on screen button and it looks like the universal sign for a power button. If I'm right, does HTC really feel that I need that as well as an extra power button on the side? If this is real, who the hell is dumb enough to design something so stupid? I wouldn't even like such a button if it was used to drop down the notification shade and better be an option and not standard and unremovable.

Hero, it took hours for me to calm down the last time. If this is real, I'm deeply disappointed in HTC.

Or, this is a dummy phone and that is why it needs the extra on screen power button. I don't know. I could deal with no OIS on the camera. But 2 power buttons needed when I can't see gestures being removed? Or are they removed? Omg, I might have to stop looking at any more leaks, this is getting depressing.

I'll say this. How is it possible that the M9 is shorter than the M8, according to reports, when the screen is the same size and the kept the HTC bar and old grilles in the design?

I sure hope HTC didn't settle on this bag of chips design for their flagship device. If so, they are screwed three ways to Sunday.

no their not. if that was true the minute the s6 render came sammys stock dropped another 20%.
