New Jeep, Droid Turbo texting

I just purchased a Jeep Renegade with uConnect 5.0 RA2. I'm running a Verizon Droid Turbo, 5.1 Lollipop.

For the most part, the Bluetooth pairing works great. Auto-connect, phone functions, contacts, and Google Play Music meta-data are all working fine.

It's the text feature that's acting strangely. When I first paired the phone, the text function was active and I could receive texts, have uConnect read them, then reply via voice-command. It was great. Then I shut the car off.

The next time I got back in and the phone connected, the text icon on the screen was grayed out. Pressing the icon gave a message that this feature was not supported on this phone. Really? It worked 30 minutes ago. So I deleted the device and re-paired, and the text function started working again, until the next re-connect. Then unsupported again.

So obviously texting IS supported. It worked. I used it. I can't re-pair the phone every time I get in the car.

Any ideas on what would cause it to act this way? Unsupported functions I can understand, but not this works-for-awhile-then-doesn't stuff!

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. What confuses me, however, is that I just bought a Jeep with Uconnect and if I try to respond to texts, I'm prompted to sign up and pay for some service. Therefore, I just use Moto Assist and that works pretty well.

Sounds more like a problem with the Jeep interface, rather than the phone itself. I have a 2012 car and the text function works fine, never have to re-pair the connection.

After searching around several Android forums, I found a thread about an issue similar to this, and followed the instructions stated there, and it appears to have worked. Here's what I did:

First, I deleted most of my message backlog. Apparently too large a backlog can cause problems. I then un-paired all devices, cleared the Bluetooth cache, and restarted the phone. I re-paired with uConnect, and texting is now working and seems to keep working after a reconnect.

We'll see what happens when I re-pair my BT earpiece and OBDII reader.

Go to the dealer and get the software updated. That's what I had to do for my Jeep GC.

I checked the Jeep uConnect website, and according to that there are currently no updates available for this particular uConnect model. In my experience, the dealer (and Jeep Customer Care) don't have access to any additional information other than what's on the website.
