New Nexus 4 purchase: Anyone get a shipping notification or tracking number?

If you're in the US, I would strongly recommend that you sign up for the UPS MyChoice service. The "basic" account is free (you can pay to upgrade to a premium account with more features).

Whenever someone ships something to me via UPS, I generally get an alert from UPS MyChoice before the seller sends me the tracking info.

Sadly, I have yet to receive any such alert for my N4. I'm hoping that these will ship today still... remember, companies with large distribution facilities don't have the same cutoff times as individuals for UPS so it could still go out tonight for delivery by Friday.

If a significant number of people don't get theirs until Monday, I'd say there's sufficient reason to be irritated with Google for poor planning. They knew these were going to be going up for sale on Tuesday morning, the packages should have been staged and ready to ship already in order to avoid the weekend delivery delay. The smartest thing to do would have been to put them up for sale on a Monday instead of a Tuesday.

This is actually the most efficient way to do it. They can get palettes of products cleared through customs at the hub in a single step, then break them down to individual recipients from there. Much quicker than going the conventional distribution center route.

Totally makes sense, I'm just being overly dramatic cause it is required for the N4.

+1 and considering next week is Thanksgiving "week", I know myself, my family and I are leaving first thing Tues AM for a nice 11hr drive for a week, so if the phone doesn't get here by Monday evening, I'm totally fuked :( No one is getting our mail and I certainly DO NOT want the UPS guy to just leave the phone at my door for a week.. F THAT... Piss poor planning yet again by Google...mofos

Yet another reason to sign up for the UPS MyChoice service... although you may want to consider the premium option since I think that let's you redirect your package or, at least, have it held at a UPS Store location for you to pick it up. Actually, I think the free account lets you choose to have it held at a UPS Store.

I signed up for the UPS MyChoice service. I also suggest everyone here sign up. I'll keep you updated as soon as I get a notification.

I signed up for the free account. Will I get an email when something is directed to ship towards me with my name?

Not exactly sure how this works.

Thanks, just signed up for the free account. $40/year for premium service is a little high?!? I'd do like $10.. LOL.. I do see on UPS site that once you receive a tracking#, either via web or phone call, can either a) re-direct the package delivery or b) have them hold on to it for x days. I'll probably do one or the other as soon as I get my tracking#'s... Wish at least my order page would flip to 'Completed' by now.. GRRR! LOL

If something is shipped to your name at your address, UPS will catch it and send you alerts. Part of the signup process requires you to verify that you are who you say you are by answering a bunch of multiple-choice questions like, "which of these addresses have you lived at in the past 15 years?"

100% agree.

This wasn't a surprise run on a product! They knew it was going on sale and exactly when because THEY picked the exact day and time.

They've had 15 days lead time to get their **** ready and their distribution centers set up AFTER they announced these products! So to me, it's inexcusable to not at least get the first batches of orders out within 30 hours of charging people. Come on.

They shipped out my FOUR Nexus 7s in UNDER 24 hours just last week! They can ship out a Nexus 4 within the same time frame.

Also, don't force people into 2 day shipping when its actually gonna take a week or more to arrive. That just pisses people off.

Just sloppy all around.

I am in full agreement that a company of Google's size and market power should have had better plans in place and solid contingency plans to avoid the server side issues we all experienced and the distribution system should have been set up and in place to begin shipping orders as early as yesterday when the first orders were processed.

However, they only did an authorization on the cards and will not run the actual charge until the device is actually shipped. Small consolation as once the authorization is run the funds are held electronically and are unavailable but there is a point of distinction on that part.

My hope is that Google has learned a valuable lesson from this whole experience and that future launches of new Nexus products wil be orchestrated much more effectively in all areas including timely shipping and allowing shipping options to be available to the consumer.

For any Canadians out there, Google is saying that the Nexus 4 shipment has been held up a customs and the phones may not ship for a few more days.
