New phone no longer gives calendar notifications

I had a Samsung Note Edge, now I have a Nexus 6p. I am not receiving calendar notifications on my 6P.
I can have both phones turned on, and the Samsung gives a notification, but the 6P does not.
Now here's the weird part, this only happens with appointments that were created before I switched phones...if I create a new appointment, i get notifications as expected, on both phones.

Are the appointments that were made prior to switching phones showing on the 6p Google calendar?

Yes. All appointments show on both phones, and on the Google Calendar website.
