New samsung note 5, how to download photos?

my old phones, i just attached a USB, went to my computer, which recognized phone. I opened phone on computer, it detects this new phone, but it says folder empty. I see a little mobile to go, but it is requiring a purchase and that seems stupid. can't find any other options.
help please???

Under 6.0 Android defaults to charging mode and not MTP thereby showing as blank folder on your PC.
Activate developer options and scroll to USB Configuration and select MTP. Unfortunately you would need to set it each time you want to connect to a PC.
On some phones, you can change it from the notification panel too.

if that doesn't work download smart switch by samsung on your computer and then connect your phone.
