New Tapatalk app for android is horrible

Exactly what I did. It's very mind-boggling that they would actually foist his garbage on the general public. Do they not have a beta or testers program of some sort?

Oh, software companies do this all the time. A couple of versions go by and someone is set on a redesign since if you're not moving forward, you are falling behind. So they most likely went through some giant redesign and then, on the 7th day, they rested and THOUGHT what they did was good. But when you're elbows deep in a project, sometimes you forget to ask "Does this suck?"

I am sure that in some office somewhere, there's a project manager in a meeting with a bunch of developers and managers and directors and such... and they are all going over the project and asking "OK, how'd we royally screw the pooch on this and how do we fix it NOW?" And there's a UI designer who is REALLY REALLY trying to not be seen.

How do I get 4.9.5 back.
When I "found" 4.9.5 on 11/24 it wasn't a Play Store "update", I was prompted via a Tapatalk pop-up when uploading, so I had both 4.9.5 and the old version as 2 apps on my phone until I uninstalled the old one. 4.9.5 was a scare but at least it was the same underneath.

How do I get it back? Am I missing something? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm more familiar with the old one but I find it more user-friendly than the new one. But it's supposed to be improving user experience. Had a hard time navigating.

No... its clunky. I can sort of see what they were getting after, they just messed up a couple of key usability items.

I mean, the update LOOKS nice.... but navigation is a mess and there are some odd usability issues... like no "mark as read" button, topic images turned on by default and clogging up the screen.... no direct access to your forum subscriptions.. .constant "failed to connect to your forum" errors....

From what I see, Tapatalk employs junior QA engineers who don't have the huevos to stand up in a meeting and take the devs to task.

My initial impressions are negative. For one thing, the list of posts such as Unread, Timeline, Participated, etc, requires a lot more scrolling because each post in the list takes up a lot of room. The header also seems bigger. On my Galaxy S4 I can see 2 1/2 posts in a page, vs maybe 6 or so before (I don't remember exactly).

I also think the navigation is more complicated, but that's just something to get used to.

Navigation is difficult because it is similar to the iOS app and iOS navigation is horrible! Took me a bit to start realizing that it was a fruit stand clone....at least on WP they still have the old app and it works just fine.

Just like when they fouled up TuneIn Radio earlier this year. I hate the new update. Harder to find posts and now posts I read don't show gray anymore so I end up reading the same posts again. I use to use the app for this forum and AVS Forum but now I end up just viewing the forums on my laptop.

I have it backed up via Titanium Backup. Am I allowed to legally post it?

I thought about trying to learn the new design, but it ended up being easier to restore the old version and uncheck automatic updating.

Ah. That's how. Thanks. Maybe Helium does it do, but I never set it up. This is the 1st time I would think of rooting.
I've read all the negative Tapatalk reviews. I will see how this plays out.

Remember the AVS forum update?
I basically quit going after being a regular for quite a while, not that I didn't try. The same great information is available there, yet the ugly wrapper, lack of ease to navigate, and the drastic change turned away many.

I also reverted. While doing so, I modified my signature, as well.

Insteads of complaining here, go the their website and complain. If enough people would do it maybe they'd fix it right...

Because they would love the idea of moving backwards ....they know they are the only game in town and know we either have to deal with it or use the website or different apps for each .

The usual lame answer..

I've seen direct contact work many times even though they were "the only game in town"..

Lame ? It's the truth ... I seriously don't get how this got out of beta testing because its outright horrible. Just look at madden between 06 and now and the only NFL game out and yet hasn't seen major upgrades per year ...

I'm sort of with Leo. I don't love the new look, but it's not awful. It's just got serious usability problems. Hopefully a patch or two of moving things around a bit and it'll all be gravy.

You must be new to Tapatalk if that's what you think.

Actually I've used Tapatalk since the beginning.. I read several other forums too..

Their updates have been sub par for a long time. This just happens to be one of the worst

I don't agree with this statement. Sure some updates have been bad. But others were good. The previous version was very usable while this new one is bad..

Just to show how ancient and stubborn I am, I'm still using Tapatalk 2.4.11. Yes, still using such an old version..!!! If it ain't broke, don't fix. Simple U.I, fast, no unnecessary fluff, just gets the job done. 😎

Just like TuneIn Radio there are no other alternatives for Android so I am stuck with it. Well I don't use it as much now.
