New update

Well I've dropped my g5plus twice today (not for the first time) and while its looked ok the speaker and ear piece bit the dust. Everything else worked just no ear piece sound either out or in from calls. so I've bitten the dust and picked up the newer g6plus. strange how when setting up with out a sim card it down loaded an April security update. and then with the sim in place it down loaed some other UI bits and bobs. So while nothing on my defunked g5plus the new phone gets everything even with out a sim card. Go figure.

Is your phone an unlocked phone ? Is it on the RetGB channel ?
In India I get updates if they are available whether there is a sim inside the phone or not (we have unlocked phones here)

Its unlocked and Im nit sure whst retGB is. I may get the 5 fixed domtime in the future if my daughter stsrts askinv about it.

You can check from Settings > About phone > Software channel to check whether your G6 Plus is on retgb or reteu.
We are on retin channel in India.

Which just confirms that the reply I got from Motorola about the retgb channel being obsolete was rubbish.

Hope you enjoy your G6+, Macdtek. It looks like a good phone and a decent upgrade, but I'll keep my G5+ for now as it's working OK, despite the absence of security updates. I suspect that, with the G6 series now out, the UK will not get any more G5+ security updates, and also no Android 8, despite promises.

Hi graham thanks. The wife says its the usual built in obselescence with the g5. The g6plus seems a little faster and feels slightly different in the hand even though it's not that much bigger. So far so good.

Well, I was wrong. My G5+ (channel retgb) has just had a security update! It's gone straight from November 2017 to April 2018. That will do for now.

I am glad that RetGB channel has also received the April Security Patch.

Received the June security patch in India on my G5 Plus, channel Retin.

Remarkably, the May and June patches also reached the 'retgb' software channel in the UK. That's better!
