New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

Meh. That's rather off-putting to hear. Can the bootloader be unlocked? Hopefully, if not, then Motorola will pull through on its promise to let off the locking.

Then again, I mean, why would they lock the Triumph? It's a prepaid phone on Virgin Mobile for goodness sake. I can maybe understand the incentive on the higher end ones, but not this.

Called Radioshack today. The Radioshack rep told me the VirginMobile rep was in today and said they would have the Triumph in stock for "release day", price $299. I asked for the Radioshack SKU/Stock# for this phone and he provided the following info: 1706369. Enjoy!

From what I understand, if you can't get to the bootloader, you can't upgrade the phone to Gingerbread or an entirely different ROM. You can only modify the existing ROM.

This is false.
You can build custom roms for the phone just not custom kernels.
The DX has had Gingerbread custom roms for a long time and it has a signed bootloader.

The biggest thing about having a unlocked bootloader is you can tweak the kernel and most of the time over/under clocking is not available. Other things like apps2sd, data2ext those type of things arent do able because the coding has to be built into the kernel.

The Optimus Black is going to be way better than this
Careful the fanbois will eat you for saying that in this thread.

Ah. Thanks for the info.

Have fun waiting for an inferior phone

Its not exactly inferior either. It just has a less powerful processor. The Black has a better display, sleeker design, the G button, a better front facing camera, and a better battery.

You guys just love to make uneducated assumptions don't you?

Nobody knows how it will preform with stock android but I for one am not going to a wait for a phone with similar specs as the Triumph

The Black uses a TI OMAP processor which has pretty much been proven to be less powerful than the second gen Snapdragon processor that the Triumph uses. It is meant to be more power efficient. So going on hardware the Triumph is most likely going to be faster, and since they both (are expected) to run the same software, stock android, it only makes sense for the Triumph to be faster. Obviously we can't know for sure yet, but there's no reason why it shouldn't.

Gorilla Glass imho sucks. I have 3 devices with the crap and 2 of them have cracked from a less than 12" drop to a wooden surface. Yes they resist scratches great but break from shock forces WAY to dam easily.
