New Virgin phone, Motorola Triumph | JULY19 | $300

The $10 fee Sprint is placing on VM is for all the phones that Sprint deems premium service devices. This seems to be on all phones 1ghz and higher. The Optimus and the Intercept will be the only android phones not to get this fee. This is not of VMs choosing but Sprint. VM has not made any statements about charging this fee too the end user but I cant see them just paying it and taking the loss.

You gotta be kidding me? You seriously believe we're gonna get charged $10 a month because we have a nice phone? no lol. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard lol.

Yes, I do recall the $10 fee is only for 4G on Sprint. We won't see it on Motorola Triumph.

VM will be releasing it at $349 with a limit to each store of 5 per 2 week period and plan to raise it to $399 or more after the first 30 days. Sorry I can't offer a sweet link to this info but its kind of a family leak. Its not sure but a rumor to also have a $10 line premium required so $35 minimum monthly.

DOA.

The $10 that Sprint charges isn't for 4G. Sprint charges the extra $10 Premium Data Charge on all of their smartphones, whether it be the HTC Evo or the Samsung Intercept.

Considering that the $25 a month plan on VM saves most people on average $50 a month or more versus the standard 2-year contract plans on Verizon, Sprint, ATT, T-Mo, you save around $1200 over that same 2-year period, so to me paying $300 for a phone is no big deal. The Triumph appears superior to the Optimus, as nice as that phone is, so I can't wait to get it. I was considering leaving VM just to get a bigger screen and faster processor, now VM is bringing me what I want and I am pleased.

I call BS.

The $10 charge on Blackberry is a fee Virgin is charged by Blackberry, NOT Sprint.
Data is data, doesn't matter on processor speed or the pipe, 5 gigs is 5 gigs.

They could however charge for 4g, Virgin did send out a questionnaire asking if people were willing to pay extra for it. Problem, is, I found some more info on this phone, it's NOT 4G.

As for $350 price tag.
HIGHLY skeptical. Prepaid phones may be the future and Virgin/Sprint may experiment with more expensive phones for it, but this isn't a small jump. Face it, Virgin customers are cheap, Vorgin knows this. $350 for a phone is quite hard to sell.

Agreed 100%

The $10 extra is a fee that is no way connect or alike to the BlackBerry fee.

The CPU speed has nothing to do with the fee it just something I noticed as similar.

The $350 price tag is for the sole purpose to slow sales. VM is facing a near catastrophic failure of their network if they gain more than 1 million more data costumers. If they do they will breech their contract with Sprint which oddly expires July 28th. Where they will have a new contract but Sprint is going to add the $10 fee per line.

Ok kid this is a thread about the fone and not the price of V-Mo's plans. So keep it to the price of the fone and about the FONE

Hah. Though they do have higher quality apps from what I've seen, I'll give 'em that.
But since we have the iPad and iTouch running the same OS then there's no real point in getting a phone just for them.

From what I have seen of the summer release line up this lands squarely in the midrange field almost lower midrange. Every single stat is 1-2 steps under most everything being release. The clear watermark is the Android 2.2, everything being release as upper and high end are being released with 2.3. With the mass amount of tablets being planned for Honeycomb with releases from late summer to dec. simply blow this thing away. Its a nice phone but its all last years tech along with the fact that Moto is on avg hell to deal with to get rooted and ROMed I cant say I am looking forward to this phone as an ownership item but I see this being a phone to change our $25 plan since this phone will be a huge draw of costumers and bandwidth with functional flash. So this phone may be the demise of the $25 plan...

As long as we're still current customers, shouldn't we be grandfathered into whatever plan we have. Or does it not work that way with prepaid?

Son, grandfather doesn't work with prepaid. :'( He only works with contracts, and once it's up grandfather will abandon you.

This
looks
DELICIOUS...
But if it has a locked bootloader... Idk if I'll get it.

Oh, and the battery sucks balls, I can barley stand my V's battery life, and it has a better battery with worse hardware >.<.

Haha well it is for now. Especially with IOS5. I don't know why apple hasn't pushed the corporate side of things more though. I know at my company people would kill for an iphone instead of the Blackberry Bolds they have to use.
