New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

Regarding lg optimus v.

When I'm o a call usig groove ip and I receive a call on my VM number it boots me off my groove ip call, any way to fix that?

Also , can anyone recommend any options that help with the lag? I'm on about a 2 second or more lag on 3G or wifi

Hi,

Unfortunately we can't stop or intercept native phone calls. So if someone calls your regular phone number, your phone will ring. If that causes your data connection to drop or be interrupted, that will cause your GrooVe IP call to drop.

Is there no native Do Not Disturb mode Groove IP could turn on? Because I know there are apps that do this for the built in dialer. Couldn't Groove IP take advantage of whatever technique they use?

Example: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fleet.studio.callblocker&feature=search_result

This may not stop dropped calls over 3G, but it will stop the built in ringer from taking over your phone while on a call over wifi.

@SNRB:
Any news about the #2 voicemail intergreation on GrooVe IP?..

PS: bought the app as promist

Thanks! Will take a look. I had looked into it quickly before but it wouldn't be the first time I missed something.

For the next release we're trying to get the echo canceler tested and integrated. Haven't forgotten about any of the features people have asked for, have them all written down in a todo list :)

Help! I posted in the guide thread. I'm a paying user and can't use the app - once i try to make a call it goes into a loop of loosing registration/connection and renewing registration (icon goes to red, then to green, then back to red shortly after, etc - until i kill the app).

Hi!

Can you email me at snrb.labs@gmail.com and I'll try and help you. Need to know wifi or 3g, what phone you have, what version of the app you have, and your order number/where you got the app from (android/amazon). Thanks!

What settings should I have if I am on Optimus V cause the lag is so bad it is unuseable and people I call say I sound choppy. This app is beta at best and if I had a chance to test it for a few days before I bought it I would not have paid the money for it.

What version of the app are you running? And where did you purchase it? Older versions had significant problems on the Optimus. Are you using 3G or WiFi? I know people are using it successfully with the newer version on the Optimus.

Update to the newest version, it will get rid of the choppy issue. Only option I have different than the default settings is microphone gain to 2. As for the lag I'm not sure I'm also getting a 2-4 second lag on my optimus v over both wifi and 3g

Version 1.1.2. Purchased on the Android Market. Calling using 3G network.

Call quality on 3G is heavily dependent on the network. If there's latency or jitter that will cause delay and choppy voice. There's not too much that can be done to improve that unfortunately.

I see 1.1.3 is on the market.
What's in this version:
Fix a potential freeze when exiting or connectivity changed
Fix the call timer reseting when you hit home and then go back to the in-call screen
Default area code config should work for numbers dialed with native dialer also
Mute music when in a GrooVe IP call (2.2 and above)
Mute system notifications when in a GrooVe IP call

My issue with groove ip stems from voice delay. On the desktop using google voice via gmail results in little to no voice delay even with 10+ minute conversations. Using groove, after about five minutes on the same wifi connection as the desktop I start getting 1+ second voice lag delays. It is fairly annoying to try holding a conversation like that. I have noticed trying to use the phone (eg. Browse web while on groove ip call) makes it even worse. I can understand that as the optimus v doesn't have the worlds best processor, but the voice delay even without phone use is confusing.

I have the latest version purchased from the google market (1.1.3) running the latest stock froyo based bumblebee rom. I have noticed after 1.1.2 or .1 when the change log noted the wifi driver being reverted the problem did get a little better.

The delay is because our processing thread isn't getting called back fast enough. We're investigating a couple of different options, we're pretty hopeful that we'll be able to reduce the delay. We're being pretty cautious because we don't want to re-introduce the choppy voice issue.

I just updated to 1.1.3 and have noticed that the app doesn't re-register with gv after a call over 3g. Seems to be fine on wifi. anybody else have this issue? or is it just my phone? I'm running the latest bumblebee rom version 2.1.

Would you mind restarting the phone and seeing if it still happens? I don't think anything changed in the re-register logic.

That seems to have been the issue. Lol, sorry for the false alarm.

Odd that it happened. I could put in a polling thread to read your data state instead of waiting for a callback from the phone (I'm assuming the phone stopped sending callbacks on connectivity changes)...but I'm afraid it would affect battery life. Let me know if it happens again to you.

I am not sure if it supposed to be this way but for me all my incoming GV calls are being "forwarded" to my VM number which then uses my minutes if I answer even tho I get the message about hitting 1 to accept and 2 to send to voicemail. To make sure, I unchecked the GV option to forward the calls, turned on airplane mode, and turned on Wifi. With that setup I dont get incoming GV calls they go straight to voicemail. Am I missing something here or is the app only to make outgoing GV calls and all incoming just get fowarded to my regular Virgin mobile which uses minutes?
