New VOIP option for GV - single app solution: GrooVe IP

For those those testing to see if they have the bug, it takes a MINIMUM of 1 min for the bug to appear after dialing or answering the phone, but I've had it show up as late as 4 mins into a call.

Both my incoming and outgoing have the bug even with the audio processing boxes checked. On Rodimus and Nameless.

Howdy - downloaded the app from the Amazon app store and have been following this thread with interest. I have an Optimus T and am experiencing some of the same problems, but I don't seem to have the latest version. Two questions.

1) How often do you post updates to the Amazon app store?
2) How can I tell what version I am running.

This product is going to be great - Thanks Kevin.

I post updates very often. Unfortunately Amazon takes a long time to approve the update. The current version up on Amazon is 1.0.5. I'm waiting for them to approve the last update I uploaded to them. Seems to take them over a week.

Keep us updated. Im glad you were able to find a version of the Optimus One. Hopefully you can find and fix the problem.

The fragmentation of android at its best. Each phone is so different. And it seems like each rom also behaves different.

Not to mention different NAT configurations, variations arising from Wifi vs 3G, differing bandwidth & latency, and whatever may be happening on Google's end, right?

Yup! How could I forget all of that fun stuff. It's a lot of fun when Google Voice has problems.

Is anyone with a stock Optimus having problems?

I haven't made a ton of calls yet but haven't been able to reproduce the problem. I hear some background noise on the Optimus. But haven't gotten choppy voice or one way voice yet.

I wonder if it's the android garbage collection kicking off in the background causing the choppy voice for you guys. The phone I'm using has nothing on it running besides GrooVe IP so no other apps to clean up if android needs more resources.

Anyway, going to keep making calls. I'm doing 5-6 minute calls, that should be long enough right? Using an Optimus T on WiFi. Any idea what percentage of calls have problems for you guys?

A big percentage. You should of hit the bug by now. If you don't hit it by 5-6min, you likely will not hit it.

I've made only 6 calls so far, each between 5 and 6 minutes long. Mix of outgoing and incoming.

2 more calls, still no choppy voice. This is disappointing. Thought it would be easy to duplicate this :(

Still no luck. Going to see if I can return the T tomorrow and get a V. Maybe there is some difference in the phones.

I will restore to stock rom here in a little bit, and see if I get the bug. That's pretty easy for me to do.
Edit: snrb_labs , are you testing with the Audio Processing boxes checked?

Nope. I left the app in it's default state. I really just wanted to duplicate the issue before I went to sleep. So I didn't touch the troubleshooting checkboxes and made a call expecting to hit the issue right away. Since it didn't happen I sat down and kept making calls. Think I packed up after about 10 or 11 calls. At this point I'm pretty disappointed.

OK, I will restore to stock, only install Groove IP, and see if I hit the bug. I will test with the boxes disabled and see if I get the same luck you did.

I just tested by calling the clerk at my local convenience store, just so I could try a different number. Same issue, perfect for 10-15 seconds, then they can't hear/understand me. The clerk put her phone on speaker so I could hear what I sounded like. You could hear the first syllable, then nothing, then a few seconds later another garbled syllable.

My phone setup: Optimus V, aospCM7 (04/27), mmarz/franciscofranco's tweeks

GrooVeIP settings: Allow 3G/4G (chkd), Accept calls on answer (chkd), Dialer prefs-Always ask, Mic gain-0, Ringtone Override-Bell, Keep Screen On (chkd), Outgoing Audio Processing (chkd), Incoming Audio Processing (unchkd), Audio Routing (unchkd), Audio Mode Fallback (unchkd), Override STUN Server (unchkd)

Running Services: GrooVeIP, ScoreMobile, SwipePad, DSPManager, Google Services, Swype

Any other details I can provide, just let me know. Would a logcat help?

OK I am on stock. Only a few market updates downloaded and Groove IP installed. No troubleshooting boxes enabled. I am testing with the echo number, 909-390-0003

These are Outgoing call test via wifi

Test #1: Call went 6-min. No bug. I ended the call.
Test #2: Got the Bug aprox 1min:30sec into the call. I ended the call at 2min:30min. It never recovered. I did enable speaker during this call, and then disabled. The bug accured shorty after.
Test #3: I am not going to enable speaker at anytime during the call. Call went 6-min. No bug. I ended the call.
Test #4: I am not going to enable speaker at anytime during the call. Got the Bug aprox 3min into the call. I ended the call at 3min:30min.
Test #5: Call went 6-min. No bug. I ended the call.
Test #6: Call went 6-min. No bug. I ended the call.
Test #7: Call went 6-min. No bug. I ended the call.
Test #8: Had the bug the first 15 seconds, but it recovered (think that's a first?). Started breaking up alot. Hung up at 4-min.
Test #9: Bug accured at 2-min. I ended the call.

I think we can verify the bug does accure on stock as well.

I have an Optimus T, stock rom Kernel 2.3.32.9. This has been my experience:

1) The ringer rings through the speaker phone when initially making a call (not what the default dialer does) and stops when you put it up to your ear.
2) When using the speaker phone you can't hear the other party through the speaker and you are very choppy.
3) I tend to have worse quality if I wait to put the phone up to me ear - could this have something to do with the proximity sensor and/or speaker phone?

I have had the issue where the other party can't hear me maybe 3 out of 30 calls, but I think this has something to to with the issues above. Should it act the same as the default dialer?

Thanks and hope this helps.

Ok. I'll make a few more calls today. If I can't get it to happen I'm going to return the phone and try to get a V.

What I noticed with the T we have is speakerphone doesn't work. Voice never comes through the speaker, always through the earpiece. I had a constant background noise when the call was up. Don't think it got worse when I put the phone to my ear. I think it got louder when we talked. This is with none of the troubleshooting boxes checked. I don't know what the phone is running, I pretty much took it out of the box, installed GrooVe IP and started making calls.

---Edit---
Ok made a few more calls. Enabled Incoming and Outgoing audio processing and the Audio Mode fallback and the background noise I was getting is gone. Calls sound pretty good haven't hit the choppy voice issue yet. Think I'm going to pack up the phone and exchange for a V.
