Newbee question - my profile

Hey guys just moved from iPhone to HTC one (which I'm loving by the way) and I have a question about my profile in the 'people' app. The address or phone numbers don't seem to link to any other apps?? If I'm out and I want to navigate home from google maps how do I do this? Or if I want to ring 'home' using google now? I could set up a contact under my own name I guess but then what's the use of my profile.

Home, in Google now, is a location setting that can be set from within the app. As far as calling a number tied to "Home", for that you would need a contact called home or saying your own name would work, etc.

Cheers for the info. So how does it work in the google map app?in the past if im out and about and i wanted to navigate to work i just typed in my name and selected my work address. but i cant seem to find my name or 'my profile' when i search. I think im going to have to create a contact for myself??

"My Places" is where they're stored if I recall right. But work is another location you can set in Google Now.
