Nexus 10 or Galaxy Note 10.1? Thoughts?!

Actually some posts on here did mention the screen & battery being crap/bad/ etc

Guilty, but not quite in those terms. I wrote that the battery life on the Note 10.1 is not as good as the Nexus 10, which it isn't. The title of this thread solicits a comparison between the devices which I was providing. In terms of battery life, Ipad > Nexus 10 > Note 10.1.

I am just curious were your information is coming from on a new galaxy tab with a S-Pen and a higher dpi display. When will it be released.

I would just like to say thank you for this post and all of the replies.
First off I have been torn between a new tablet I love my Samsung products but have been flirting with buying a Nexus, also have been torn between another 7" tablet like I have now or going with a 10".
Although this post really didn't help me make up my mind I did get to see some of your points of view which has helped.
I know its all personal opinion as to which device or what size but I like seeing what other folks think too.

The above post demonstrates that people are writing out of turn without having had experience with both tablets. The problem with the Note 10.1's screen resolution isn't photographs or video (watching the Super Bowl). It is text (school and work). Small and mid-sized text looks horribly pixelated on the Note 10.1.

I use my Nexus 10 for work, primarily drafting and editing text documents. I couldn't imagine doing so every day with the Note 10.1's blotchy screen.

I would be interested to know if anybody on these forums has owned both devices concurrently, used them side by side, and opted for the Note 10.1 over the Nexus 10. It seems most bought the Note 10.1 and are now advocating for it to justify their decision. Or they bought it based on speculation without having purchased the Nexus 10 too for comparison purposes.

The Note 10.1 looks, feels, and performs like a budget device compared to the Nexus 10. And I write that as a user of, and advocate for, Samsung's S Pen technology..

I'm speaking out of turn without using both devices? I have been through a semester and a half with the Note and have had NO problem with the "horribly pixelated" screen. I also use it for work meetings and church meetings where I Often teach lessons and have to take notes. I haven't used the Nexus 10, so I can't and DIDN'T speak about it. I will speak about the note however, because I've owned it since a week after release. The Nexus10 is amazing from what I've researched. But so is the Note. It's a matter of what you need it for. I even use my Note for Netflix and it looks great since the screen is only 10.1" and not 70".

It's not a budget device either. Either you haven't used it, or you have a very odd perception of what a budget device is. The Note is a top 5 tablet including Android and Apple. If this is your idea of "budget" then you must be a millionaire.

I'm glad you like your Nexus 10, but don't act like we're stupid or u educated for appreciating the Note. It's PERFECT for what I need it for. I honestly don't care what you use a tablet for because that has no bearing on what I buy. And yes, I guess I do justify my purchase each time I pull the S Pen out and it makes my life easier. Forgive me.

Interesting reading this thread. I was searching the group for information on a stylus to use with my N10. I've had this unit since it came out and love it. However, I'd reallly like something to take notes with. The two stylus units I bought so far don't work worth a darn and have this massive tip which flexes. (I still miss my Palm III stylus.)

Anyone know if I can use a stylus from a Note 10.1 for the N10? I've already tried Antipaper, Evernote Skitch (?), Pen Supremacy (which requires an always-on internet connection!), and Papyrus. Nothing seems to be really suitable. Granted, I'm left-handed and have horrid handwriting. However, the smaller the stylus tip, the better I would think.

No you can't use the spend with any device other than Samsung note devices. They have Wacom technology that makes their handwriting abilities unmatched.

Sadly no, the Note 10.1 was specifically designed for use with the S-Pen, the screen of the Nexus 10 just doesn't have the same tech behind it to work with it. All you can use are the crappy generic styluses that are only good for throwing into a trash can.

Just ordered a Nexus 10 was stuck between it and the note. This thread was useful.

thank you all.

i spent another $15 on a stylus from Kensington. Not much better than the iBlason one I tried. Really hard to write with these. Almost wish I had the Note 10.1 now. However, I'm planning on upgrading my phone form the Galaxy SII to the Note II. Maybe that will do for notes in meetings. (I actually used to be able to take notes using Grafitti on my Palm III back in the day.)

The Note 2 should be good enough to make notes. My friend on here has one and she loves it and that includes the S-Pen.

Yes, to the extent that the subject of the thread was to compare the devices. Not to advocate for one simply because it is the one that you own.

I haven't used the Nexus 10, so I can't and DIDN'T speak about it.

Precisely. And that would tend to support my theory that the majority of those in love with the Note 10.1 have not had a lot of first hand exposure to the Nexus 10. Some people really like their Hondas until their first test drive of a BMW.

I will speak about the note however, because I've owned it since a week after release.

Yes, this supports my point that some Note 10.1 advocates are simply cheering for the Note because it is the tablet they've bought (in most cases, I suspect, before the Nexus 10 was released - this would appear to be your situation). Blind advocacy for the Note without a serious comparative look at the market competition is of little value, an opinion in a vacuum if you will. The purpose of the thread was to compare the two, which I've tried to do.

No, regrettably the Note 10.1 is not a budget device. It is priced quite high, especially in light of the Nexus 10 coming to market in the same price range. I did not write that it is a budget device. I wrote that it feels like a budget device, which it does. Try a Nexus 10 for a few days, and I think you'll better understand what I mean. They look and feel like they're in entirely different leagues.

I agree that the Note 10.1 is a top five 10" tablet. I would rate it third behind the Nexus 10 and ipad. But it is a very distant third.

I'm glad you like your Nexus 10, but don't act like we're stupid or u educated for appreciating the Note.

I don't think you're stupid, but I find it difficult to say that you are highly educated on the comparison given that you have not yet tried the Nexus 10.

Here again you appear to be advocating. No device is perfect, certainly not one with a screen resolution of 149 ppi.

I make notes in my Note 2 daily, but the screen can feel a bit tight for handwritten notes.

Have you considered taking notes in your tablet with a bluetooth keyboard? That's what I do. It's much faster and cleaner than taking handwritten notes.

I think this sums all of it up for you actually. Again it is use case. You have a Galaxy Note 2 Phone. So you have a phone with the exact same specs as the Note 10.1, and truthfully if you need to take hand written notes then you can just down it on the phone and not have to worry about it on the 10.1. If you didn't have your note would it be a concern. I know for me it would be.

To suggest someone use a bluetooth keyboard when they want to use handwriting is a bit silly. Plus if that was really the direction they would like to go then they should probably look at a surface tablet, or a Asus transformer tablet.

The fact you harp on screen resolution and PPI actually makes you appear to the one trying to defend your purchase. Before you try to claim i am speaking out of turn, I have a Note 1, a Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7", my GF has Note 10.1 that I got for her, and then I had a Xoom Wifi before my nexus.

Dude. You're spending WAY too much time overanalyzing my opinion of the Note. If the Nexus 10 doesn't have the S Pen, I think it's pointless. Would you like to know why? Because I don't need a touchscreen internet browser. I have a laptop, and so I do not need just another way to surf the web and watch Netflix. I have a tablet, because I wanted something I could take to class that would simulate REAL NOTE TAKING withough having to worry about a pen running out of ink or sharpening my pencil. Clearly the tablet that can accomplish this, and the one I chose is the Note. Don't try to analyze every syllabyl and try to scientifically explain why I am wrong. When it comes to my opinion, you will not change it using your opinion. Until the Nexus 10 gets the S Pen, I will not be overly interested. It's nothing against the Nexus 10, it's just that my #1 want and need was the S Pen on a great tablet.

I'm going to share something with you that just might blow your mind. Prepare yourself.......When someone asks if they should get one of two devices, sometimes people will say why they LOVE one of those two devices. Then the OP can read everyone's comments and make THEIR decision. If I was bashing the Nexus 10, I can see why you'd be irritated. But I wasn't. I said it looks awesome but doesn't have the S Pen, which is true. I can still share my opinion on the Note even though I haven't used the Nexus 10. Clearly you have a very dear hatred of the Note 10.1. Maybe it taunted you the last time you were in Best Buy, but you need to let that go. It's OKAY for people to be happy with their device just because you are happy with a different device. I do not care if you consider the NExus 10 a BMW. Because quite frankly, BMW's are not that impressive to me. I can spend less money and still get the exact same end result, except in this case I get the added bonus of the S Pen. Use whatever analogy you want, but I STILL would have bought the Note 10.1 even if the Nexus 10 came out first, because I ONLY wanted a tablet that could simulate note taking. You're also talking about it being a "budget" device now that it's been out for 8 months. When it came out, it was pretty much competitive with anything else available. 8 months after ANYTHING comes out, it will start looking old and dated. Welcome to technology.
