Does TSF let you put your icons anywhere you like?

I would say for the most part yes. As you can see on my home screen, that icon labeled "magic" actually is a folder that I can pretty much drop anywhere on the screen.

Just watched this bit of craziness. This guy is awesome. TFS launcher is very cool and gives a lot of flexibility. I am going to check it out.

Worth it, hmmmmm...It's different and snazzy that's for sure. If you have $16 to burn, why not. Some things are weird, for example, in Nova/Apex, you press and hold a UCCW and get the options that come up to resize, move to front/back, etc...you don't get that in TSF. Even though, you can put an icon on top of the UCCW and it works fine. I'll continue to use it for a while, it's working for me.

I made the icons in Photoshop. I can make you some different ones if you need something. Try FF696969 for the color. I honestly just eyeballed the gray color.
