Hi, I got a new mic yesterday for when videoing loud sources (iRig Miccast) or just for simple & quick better quality mono recording on my phone, taking notes, recording ideas etc...

Anyway there appears to be a problem with the nexus 4 (unrooted/locked/stock running kitkat)

I have tried recording with various applications, irigs own application, tapemachine, lg camera pro, or Audio evolution pro.

When I record using the phones inbuilt mic... there is no problem, as you can see in the image below, no static clicks..

However when plugin the iRig Miccast and start recording, there is random spikes/static clicks

I have set the phone to airplane mode so there shouldn't be any interference from the radios, ive tried with Screen on/off and makes no difference

I have tried the same on my motorola Xoom and there is no static clicks, so this must be related to the nexus 4
(i cant run the test on the nexus 7 (2012) as it appears to not support external mics)

Any ideas whats causing the clicks when only using external mic on n4?

many thanks

Do you atleast get a good gain for normal recording? There is a thread at code.google.com with hundred of complains about inline mic recording issue, specifically low gain, so I'm not surprised even though this issue is slightly different. It's one of the hardware issue of the Nexus 4 that google/lg overlooked or just don't care to fix.

Hi, thanks for the reply, Yes gain & sound is perfect.... Just the annoying clicks. (They can be removed afterwards on a pc with declicker plugins) but I'd rather not need to process them.
I've tried 48khz/44.1khz, all various buffer sizes, and in audio evolution tried both standard android audio system and the new openSLES.

Hi, did you find a solution for the clicks?
I need to record very loud Brazilian percusions, do you think the iRig Miccast could be fine ?
Thanks

Max

Hi, not with the nexus 4 it wont be, its a hardware fault..
