Nexus 4 vs S4

Its weird. Still not satisfied with my nexus 4 battery life. I can see it drain drastically when I browse and chat continuously . not sure whether this is typical android batt consumption as I moved to this phone from iPhone 4. Frankly speaking I love everything about this phone except the battery!!

Can you hold off until Google IO?

Rumour has it there may be a new nexus 4 announcement. Possibly a 32gb LTE version, which may tickle your fancy.

Might be worth waiting, just for piece of mind. It's only a week away now.

I think you are all missing the biggest advantage of the nexus: I can buy an unlocked version for about $350. Try to do that with a Samsung Galaxy.

Yep, this is a big factor. If you're talking value for money, it's the N4 hands down. By the way, aren't they all unlocked?

My battery life is all right. I would describe my use as maybe 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is heavy gaming, constant use. I get about 3 - 4 hours screen on time from a charge, phone active for 13 hours or so. The battery life isn't as good as my (mildly hated) previous iPhone 4.

The phone very rarely does little glitchy things that require a restart but this has been literally maybe 5 times in 2 months.

Also, if you are on speakerphone a lot, the speaker is pretty bad and it's badly located on the bottom of the phone so putting it down on a desk with speakerphone activated isn't great. Speakerphone in the car isn't a great proposiiton either.

Overall, though, I'm happy as a first time Android user, and again, you cannot beat the price/specs ratio. Also, Google seems to have your back; my first one was clearly glitchy on day One and they exchanged it without even asking me any questions, and I bought it from a (legit) private seller so I had no receipt or anything.

No matter how hard I try, I can't find a single other Launcher / GUI that beats stock vanilla Android 4.2.2 on my N4.

I was the same way, but I caved in. I found that if you install either Nova or Holo HD the GUI speed difference is practically imperceptible if you don't go overboard with the extra customization capabilities they offer. Of all the popular launchers out there those two are the truest to stock code which is why they run so smooth on the n4

I was looking through the "post your home screen" threads in this forum and in the S4 forum. I noticed the one's here are much more creative and cool looking. Maybe that's just me but is there a reason why the N4 would be easier to customize home screens vs the S4? Or are they both capable of producing the exact same home screens?

I thought maybe those with the N4 are a bit more tech inclined in general so maybe that's why the home screens look more advanced?

I'm still on the fence with this decision.

I frankly find the other launchers to be cluttered and overly complicated to set up and use. They are all purported to have these cool themes, which is great and everything, but I can never seem to find those themes -- or any others which are truly appealing to me -- when I've gone looking. I'm all for options and variety, so I'm not complaining that these alternative launchers exist, but for me they are very cumbersome to configure and manage, and again, they just don't really give me any particular value, so therefore there is no incentive to bother.

Lets see if they release the rumored LTE Nexus 4 at Google I/O in a week or so.
The S4 looks good on paper but in real world use the Nexus 4 is much smoother.

I think probably the biggest consideration is Will You Be Able to Get LTE in your area, with your carrie?. That data speed might be make or break right there and tip you over to S4...

I've not touched an S4 so the rest is just going by what's on paper. Samsung I9505 Galaxy S4 vs. LG Nexus 4 E960 - GSMArena.com

The S4 does have a larger screen and higher pixel density/resolution. It's Super AMOLED vs the N4's True HD IPS which is a more efficient tech if I read reports right.
+ S4 has 2600 mAH vs N4's 2100 mAH battery.
I think with the larger screen the battery life would be about even...

If camera is important to you, S4 has a better quality and reportedly Samsung added in some very nice software features to make it even better.

They both have 4.2.2 and I'd be willing to bet that as a flagship model, S4 would get KLP pretty soon after it's release...

However, there is all that bloat. Try reading this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...avid-i-switched-android-wish-i-never-did.html A new Android user posts about his reaction to the S4 and more than a few experienced users talk about TouchWiz, various fixes and complaints. Might be some appropriate advice in there as well.

Agree for sure. Just waiting to see if a new Nexus 4 comes out in a week or so before switching to a Nexus 4 on AT&T and dropping my Note 2.

No matter how hard I try, I can't find a single other Launcher / GUI that beats stock vanilla Android 4.2.2 on my N4.

Samsung does not calibrate their screens on anything.

The screen you can calibrate with a custom kernel and Franco kernel updater, You can have better battery life with a custom kernel( Franco kernel is best) and the Nexus 4's glass ****'s all over the cheap feeling plastic.

You can't say I am a troll because I am in my favourite sub forum and the OP needed encouragement:D

It's just coincidence you can do the same level of customization on any phone using third party launchers

In my opinion, I love the feeling when I holding N4, love the design and software.
S4 has many features but most of them I use them less than they can.

When I hold my nexus 4 in my palm, I can see the battery draining out of it. Hah!

I come to this forum because I want to be convinced to get the N4 over the S4. I was at the store yesterday and had the S4 pulled and ready to pay and I decided to walk out of the store and think. I just am severely bothered by the bloat and overlay (touchwiz) of the S4. There are some things on the s4 that are superior to the N4 such as battery life (i think?), some gimmicky gestures, the camera, the screen, better feel/design (in my opinion) and maybe others.

The benefits of the N4 to me are: I'd get updates asap. No overlay or bloat (minimal bloat at least). I highly value the vanilla feel of the N4 and the ability to get updates faster. It is probably good enough to get me by until the next nexus comes out. I am a tech geek to the extreme and I like having the latest and greatest but at this point I'm not sure the S4 offers me much over the N4. The camera isn't a huge deal to me as I always have my Fuji with me. I'm just mainly concerned with screen, battery life and feel of the phone.

How is the camera on the N4 compared to the S4?
The Screen?
The battery life?
The form factor/feel etc...?

Camera stinks on N4.
Screen is very good on N4 but the S4 is 1080p.
N4 battery has been very good for me. Too early to say for S4, but probably about the same.
S4 feels cheap and easily breakable. N4 feels solid and high-quality. But N4 is more likely to crack when dropped.

I'd go with the S4.
Im getting ready to sell my N4. Great phone, but I rather have a better camera and LTE. And im a very big fan of vanilla android.
