5:58 PM CST my order for a 16gb went through and immediately got an order confirmation via email. Bad news is 2-3 week delivery window. Oh well, and least I got an order in and reserved a spot in line.
Continued hitting "proceed" until I got through, using Safari on my iPhone. Glad I had the foresight to set up a Google Wallet account, which made payment a snap.
I have to say, this whole mess still seems very odd to me. There is no way this phone is THAT popular that they could not keep up with demand. I have 2 friends that know what a Nexus is, yet I bet the vast majority of people have no clue what it is. Honestly, outside of communities like this, it's a fairly obscure and unknown thing. I personally dont buy the explanation of "They arent in the retail business." For a company that darn near runs the internet, and has resources comparable to companies like Apple and Amazon, this shouldve gone much smoother e even if they had low stock and oversold. The only reasons for this whole fiasco I can think of are:
1) Google's servers were overwhelmed by a few scalpers getting many accounts to buy simultaneously, like they do with concert tickets. Actual individuals with just one computer got pushed aside from brute force.
2) Google is trying to create hype by purposely limiting supply. I have a feeling that's what happened with the iPhone 5 and they may have been following suit.
3) They had a ridiculously low supply and just got caught with their pants down.
