Nexus 4 will not connect to my pc as a media device

When I connect my phone to my pc through USB it will come up as a camera (PTP) but no longer comes up as a media device (MTP). I've tried looking for a solution and a lot of them say to go through the device manager, but my phone will not show up in the device manager either.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using a PC? It might be related to the bad updates that Microsoft pushed back in August. See these threads:

Try developer option, USB debugging on.
