I looking through the tech blogs all the top stories have been the nexus 5 or the release of Kit Kat. I have not seen or heard much on the new iPad. Anybody else noticing this too?

I haven't noticed as much noise lately related to the iPad Air. Aside from the hardware changes, it's not groundbreaking to keep the buzz going for weeks on end. Does that mean the Nexus 5 will be the device buzzing a few months from now? Not necessarily. New devices are always around the corner and the next big thing today will become the best thing of yesterday - the joys of being a tech enthusiast.

I haven't seen a lot about the Ipad Air either. I picked up mine last night and it's the best Ipad to date IMO. It's giving me something to play with until my Nexus 5 arrives.

The iPad Air launch didn't seem to attract the crowds either, lots of tech sites saying the 'queues' for them are... well, there isnt one!

Apple churns the same stuff out constantly, they considered making everything white with some new icons a HUGE redesign of iOS. Control centre/notification 'centre' are just cheap knock offs of the Android version which is far more useful! No wonder Android has 80% + of the market now.

FWIW I think the changes in the UI that I have seen, sms and dailer, resemble Windows Phone From my old Lumia 920. Apple always seems to copy from other UI's and then present them as new and innovative. That's one of the big issues I have with them.

The Air hasn't gotten much attention - which is a bit odd, considering it's a much more innovative upgrade than the iPhone 5S is. I picked one up on Friday and it's absolutely awesome. So is my brand spanking new N5, of course :-)

Android doesn't have 80% of the tablet market share and the iPad Air is, in terms of hardware design, a gigantic leap forward, not like the iPhone5S.

I'm far from being an Apple fanboy but when they actually release a truly great product, it should be acknowledged.

Thinner and lighter with a faster processor... where have we seen that before?

The 5s was never going to be the jump forward people hoped for, it's an 'S' device so is merely an upgrade in specs (based on the history of iphone).

Yeah no wonder, besides the cheap crap produced by 3rd rate manufacturers with cheap prices.

Android has 80% of market share (if that) because the Android os is free. Simple as that. It doesn't mean it's superior or inferior to other os.

Apple really is quite amazing. Against all the competitions around the globe (Google + all the android manufacturers combine) they are still holding their own. They have a hold of the most profitable/lucrative market share, the high end.

I grabbed an iPad air too and agree, it is a great iPad. Mine is mostly for my wife and kid as it kind of drives the home entertainment system set up we have (seriously Amazon... Give us an android video app!). I have to say however, the iPad is fabulous hardware but iOS is no where near as good as Android in my opinion ( I have used both since the beginning). The one thing that the iOapplesphere has done better than anyone else is integrate everything together. Of course you can make things work together on Android, but iOS allows my six year old daughter to just figure it out and then teach my wife.

I can't wait for the N5 to show up so I can stop messing with the iPad though!

iPad Air was available day 1 without shipping delays and no sellouts in local stores.

I would imagine the iPad Mini will be much more tough to get.

I've always said iOS is a tablet OS while Android is a great phone OS.

I share your sentiments. The sad thing is iOS can be a great phone OS but Apple seems to not care as much as they are for the iPad.

I know where you're coming from, but 250g lighter is a game-changer. The iPad has just gone from a carpal-tunnel inducing brick to a feather-weight tablet that can be handheld for hours without an issue. So the drastic reduction in weight while maintaining the excellent build quality is really quite an achievement, this is not like the iPhone 5 weighing 10g less than the 4S.

As for speed: the iPad 4 never felt slow until they introduced iOS 7. It was necessary to up the processor specs on the 5 to maintain decent speed. So yes, this aspect is schizo.

The people who bought Android devices could have bought Apple devices instead, but chose not to. The best selling Android phones are also the most expensive Android phones...so Android's success is obviously not because of price. My HTC Rezound was more expensive than any iPhone when it came out. The GS3 and GS4 were also just as expensive as the best iPhones.

If you are only comparing high end devices then Apple would have majority market share.
The number of cheap android phones and devices far outweigh high end ones. The reason they can make it cheap is because it's free.

Case in point would be the kindle fire.

According to what source? The GS3 and GS4 alone were the best selling Android phones by a wide margin.

My sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_mobile_phones#2012
Total Android High end for 2012: 60 Million
Total Apple High End for 2012: 57.5 Million

That is assuming you consider the 4S to be high end. If not, the difference is more dramatic (the iPhone 4 was definitely low end for Apple). Android totals include the following high end devices: Nexus 4, Galaxy S3, One-X, Note 2 and Optimus G. All these sold in the same price range or higher than top iPhones.

I'd like to see your source supporting the claim that most Android phones sold are low end.

They don't care about tech blog sites. In the mass media, which reach way more people that apple cares about its always gets the most press.... CNN, MSNBC, fox, etc... That's what really matters in the grand scheme of things.

I don't why you keep on bring up GS3 GS4 unless you think that GS3 and GS4 responsible for 80% android market share. As great as the sales are of the GS3 and GS4 are they are only a small percentage of the android market. Google it if you want. "The GS3 and GS4 alone were the best selling Android phones by a wide margin" Compare to who or what? They are certainly not beating iPhone sales.
And lets not forget that Android includes tablets. How many millions of Kindle fires, $50 Chinese tablets are sold worldwide. Walk into Walmart and there is a whole line of Android prepaid phones for $40.
Like I said Android have a large market share but only because they are free. That's why all these manufacturers choose them.

Yeah that is true regarding cheap android devices accounting for the majority of sales.
Everyone crys "overpriced" for all of Apple's product releases and yet the iPad still manages to outsell the $250 nexus 7 and all the other cheap android tablets that are said to be a good value.
