Not sure, what could possibly be the mechanism causing this, if true?
I don't know if this is true, but one possibility is that with all of those files stored, the Media Scanner function of Android might be forced to take significantly longer to scan all folders looking for media files to populate the Gallery and other media databases. I always thought the Media Scanner runs once upon starting up a device, and on those that have microSD card support, it runs whenever a card is inserted. But perhaps it runs on a periodic basis, to check if new media files have been added. Just a theory.
