Nexus 5 destroyed

I've never understood putting a phone in the back pocket anyway. Maybe when they were tiny and indestructible but not a 5" screen with glass and plastic. I always cringe when I see people put their phone there, and threads like this don't surprise me in the slightest.

I don't think even a metal phone would have survived that... aluminum IS bendy, you know? So unless they start making phones out of steel, you better avoid falling on your **** while your phone's there.

I doubt he fell with enough force to bend something like an HTC One. Obviously the screen would still have cracked but might not have bent like this. I'm not going to try but I bet I could snap the S4 with my bare hands, not the One :p

That's actually a pretty good one lol. Nope it is a Nexus 5 purchased with a Visa.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4

call Visa, most of them have the damage protection and most people don't even know. Call your credit card company and ask.

OUCH!!! That is brutal... I always keep mine in my back pocket as well when walking around.... It's more comfortable that in my front pocket pressing against my leg while I walk around..... I've been doing that ever since phones got bigger and starting with the iPhone 3G and Nexus 1.... Never sat on it before and with all the ice we've had here in Dallas I've been walking with my phone tightly gripped in my hand while walking around outside.... I've had them fall out of my front or inside jacket pockets before..... I don't really think there is a true "SAFE" place to put your phone.. Specially as they get bigger and bigger....

Oh really.....whats the gauge thickness do you think the HTC One is. Its thin aluminum not heavy gauge nor is it made of steel You have to have some sort of logic about this. Even a phone that was aluminum like the HTC one would break and more than likely be bent. That was a hard fall thaT LEFT AN "***" print mold into the phone.rofl. I feel your pain, but this is why I have a belt clip with it on my waist in front of me not on my side.

All the newer phone are thin and fragile. You even need to be careful just sticking them in your pants pocket. Put a CD in your front pocket, then sit down and see how much the CD bends.

A few years ago when I was using Palm Treo's you could play football with them and not damage the phone. :)

Wow! That's unfortunate. It really was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I slipped on some Ice on the stairs. I had the phone in my back pocket.
This was your only mistake.

For the life of me I cannot understand why people insist on keeping their phones there. I know several people that do this. It is just asking for trouble.

I had the supcase unicorn bumper and a screen protector on. The case was USELESS.
It was not useless...it was never designed for that kind of fall. It was designed for protecting from drops, not having 100lb+ objects fall on it. IMO there probably is no case anywhere that would have helped you in this situation.

Phones belong in your front pocket, screen facing inward (even there it could break technically, but it will be much much harder to do). You don't want your phone anywhere that you regularly sit on.

Except the Nokia line :p

None of us were there, so we obviously don't know how much force he put on the phone when he fell or how he landed and unless you want to try and bend your N5 until it gets this bent we won't know. What I was saying is that the One would be less likely to bend, even if it is thin aluminum it's considerably stronger than the plastic on Nexus phones

I'm sorry for your lost but everytime I see someone puting their phones in the back pocket the hair are lifting on my arm as I imagine what would happen if they sit on it. The pictures you are showing just confirm what I saw in my head ;)

I agree. To me, putting a phone in the back pocket would be like putting your phone on the asphalt under your car right in line with your car tire because it's the most comfortable place to keep it stored until you're ready to drive somewhere and then you'll pick it up. It just seems like there's a 100% chance that ONE TIME you'll forget it's there and it's finished. Unless you have the new LG flex device, I would NEVER store my $400 device in a spot where it's almost guaranteed to be destroyed just because it's "more comfortable".

That wasn't a very good analogy :p

I know, it was a massive stretch. But that's honestly how I feel about it. Both scenarios make the same amount of sense to me. Chances of this same exact thing happening just seem too high.

Sorry to hear. Since it's been less than 60 days your Visa will cover (part of) it. Last but not least, what sort of man keep anything but a wallet in his rear pockets:p Good luck!

It was hehe, no worries, I have had my fair share of bad analogies when trying to describe something here XD
I know people who have their phones in their back pockets at all times (like my sister) and their phones are perfectly fine. OP didn't sit on it, he slipped on the ice which led to this :p
