Nexus 5 owners with T-Mobile $30 Prepaid Plan Thread

How long does it usually take for a phone to work after it's activated online? I activated it on Friday and am wondering when I'll be able to use my phone. I'm porting my number from consumer cellular BTW. Thanks.

I've been using the $30/mo t-mobile prepaid plan successfully for years now. The one downside is the lack of automation. I would prefer not to have to add funds to my account every month. I also tend to go over my minutes some months which requires me to add more funds and keep track of how much I'm using. I use callingmart to refill. Does anyone know of a way to automate this entire process? Thanks!

You can set up an auto-payment on Callingmart, under your account (Auto Purchase Management), so that CallingMart will make a $30 payment for you. It allows you to set a date when the first purchase is made, then you can set it to make the same purchase every 30 days from that date. You can use the T-Mobile RTR Auto load option, so Callingmart automatically adds the money to your account. If you then just keep a few dollars on your account (depending on how much over 100 minutes you might go), you won't have to worry about your account.

Sorry, I'm new to this plan. Does the 5 GB of 4G LTE data include tethering, or do I have to pay separately for that?

That's incorrect. It is not included in this plan.
After further research, it looks like $15 is required to add tethering to this plan. Probably because this is technically an unlimited plan, since they throttle after the 5GB, instead of cutting off.

Actually, it is, just not very much data included. Only 100mb. But, in a pinch at least it's something.

You can't use that unless you're rooted.

No it's included in the plan. Shows up under usage in the TMobile app.

And you can't use it unless you're rooted and use a hack. What I said previously is correct. Tethering is not included in this plan.

Hi so question my sister is on T-Mobile $50 prepaid plan, unlimited talk & text with 1 gig of data can she switch to this plan without activating online & losing her Tmo # that she had for a good few years or can it be ported from the $50 plan to the $30 plan. Thanks in advance Ron.

You can always keep your number no matter what.

Unless something has changed you must activate a new line, with a new number for this plan. But you can later (I don't know how much later, but not more than after the first month) move your original number to that line.

Why not change to the $30 plan, convert the original T-Mo# to a Google Voice #, and take advantage of wifi calling with the Hangouts app? All incoming/outgoing calls can use the GV#. (I don't even remember my T-Mo assigned #.)

I think the number can be ported - contact T-Mobile and see what they say. Let us know what happens.

I currently have the $30 prepaid plan with a Nexus 4. I am ready to upgrade to the Nexus 5, but the Google Play store is currently sold out. It seems like T-Mobile has them available, but I am wondering if anyone bought theirs from T-Mobile. Does it come with a bunch of extra crap on it? Does it get android updates at the same time as one bought from the Play store?

I got my Nexus 4 from Google directly, and I was happy not to have a bunch of T-Mobile stuff pre-installed, and I always get the updates immediately. If the Nexus 5 from T-Mobile is modified, I guess I'll just have to wait.

It doesn't seem like it's sold out when I loaded the page. Perhaps you are looking at the Nexus 6 order page?
