Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

5 pros and 5 cons is too many for me. Buy from the Google Play store and you have 14 days to return it if you're not happy. I thought I was only going to experiment and return it. But it's turned out to be far and away the best phone I've tried, so I'm keeping it.

The Nexus 5 is fast and smooth, has a great screen, an excellent camera (I never quite understand the people who think it isn't good), and should still be able to hold its own against newer devices for at least another year or two. The main weak points are a mediocre battery (around 3 hours of total screen-on time for me), and an unimpressive mono speaker (which I almost never use anyway for music--would rather use headphones). I can't think of 5 cons.

Guys, can you give 5 cons/pros why should i buy or not N5? Im struggling about N4/N5 (main problem is screen, i think 4,7 is perfect and 5 is too much) HELP ;<

If you want pure android, buy Nexus 5. 5'' is not too big. Actually the phone is about the same size as Nexus 4.
Camera? If you looking for good camera, you won't get it here. The camera is average, camera app is awful.
Battery life - Not bad , not good. Acceptable if you know what to do with it.

The main reason I bought Nexus 5 (even though I hate android) to always get latest updates from Google. Also N5 seems to be smoother than devices from other vendors as it really uses hardware acceleration for UI rendering. For example Samsung added HW acceleration only in their last Galaxy S5 :)

My nexus 5 which is about 3 months old is getting overheated while charging .A battery saver which i installed is showing a temperature of 40°C ! Is that a problem with the phone or the charging circuit ? I charge my phone from a multiple socket device ...around 4,5 gadgets will always be charging from the sockets , so is there any problem with the supply?

Nothing to worry about. When you use your phone gets hotter than 47C (117F). Read this thread about wireless charging and heat. http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...r-charger-heating-nexus-116-f-stop-using.html

Also, worst case you can replace your N5 battery yourself in about 6 minutes with the YouTube videos that show you how.

Let me clarify this first. I will only buy a unlocked phone that I own. I won't pay the higher cost for AT&T and Verizon that over charges you each month for service to subsidize the phone's real cost. The Nexus 5 is the best phone on the market for under $450 is the main reason to buy it today. At only $350 the Nexus 5 is a real bargain.

Yes there are newer sightly better phones with minor features on the market now that are better than the Nexus 5 if you need those features. Those phones are far more expensive ($500 plus up) and I still feel like the Nexus 5 is a Flagship phone that does everything I need plus I get the most current Android OS updates first. The Nexus 6 and LG G3 are in my opinion better phone than a Nexus 5 but they cost over $600. The only real issue with the Nexus 5 is the screen time with the smaller battery but I have a $16 power bank portable chargers that solves that problem for me. I would still pick my old Nexus 5 over a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Also, the Nexus 5 really has a 4.95" 1920x1080 display (445 ppi) screen not full 5". It feels like a smaller phone not a big phone even with that extra 0.25" screen over your perfect size of 4.7". I went from a 4" screen to a Nexus 5's 4.95" and was worried about the same size issues but now I couldn't go any smaller screen size than a Nexus 5. No, I won't be getting the Nexus 6 since I think it is too big. I think 5.2" now is my sweet spot since I would like my next phone to be a little larger than my N5.

I was a smartphone hold out for years, but decided to make the move late Sept. 2014. My nephew owns an N5 and recommended I wait until the N5 successor was announced. As the rumors leaked about the N6, it didn't look like it was the device for me because of the 6" display. I looked at the unlocked 2014 Moto X, but decided to purchase the Nexus 5 directly from Google Play. I've been using it full time for the three weeks and have been very happy with it. It is a great value for $350.

Regards...JL

I have completed a full factory reset, and the problem still persists. It still recharges and depletes at an alarming rate, regardless of the lack of apps running or apps installed. The phone will immediately shutoff around 90-88% charge, even at mild use (calling or texting only). Any synopsis or recommendations?

Welcome to Android Central! Sounds like a defect, either in the battery or other hardware (like the motherboard). If you got it through Google Play, contact Google to request a free replacement: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...placement-program-damaged-nexus-5-phones.html

I actually see the opposite--things seem to be even quicker on mine. Did you try wiping the cache partition?

Welcome to Android Central! The camera daemon problem is a stubborn one that has been hanging around KitKat for a while, only on certain Nexus 5's. Have you gotten Lollipop yet? Hopefully that will fix it.

How warm is it getting? Can you tell from the battery stats if one particular app seems to be working overtime?

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

Hi ! since the last update me and my daughter having some bugs.Sometimes the screen flashes with no solution but to close the cell. I tried to restart it and return to company default setting with no result! Why updating ??? When everything ran smooth and ok with the other firmware? Another thing is that i noticed that there was no more sound when people hang up( that sound is useful when i 'm speaking using hand free and cant see the screen. My daughter , who has the same phone say she cant keep her background pic. The cell always returning to default background. I also updated all my apps to make sure that was not the issue . I'M out of solutions any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

My N5 updated to Lollipop works absolutely fine and I seem to have none of the issues others face.
However, when I connect to my Windows 8.1 lappie it shows that it is connected as a media device (MTP) on the phone but does not show up at all in the laptop's file explorer and so am unable to transfer media files or anything else between the devices. Even Bluetooth doesn't work. At home my Ubuntu 14. laptop works fine with the phone though I don't remember if Bluetooth works on it or not. Is this a Windows OS problem?
