Nexus 5 vs Moto X: specific use case

Battery size is less important than battery life, and it appears the Moto X beats the Nexus 5 under most use cases. But really if battery life is the biggest concern than the LG G2 or Droid Maxx are better choices.

can you actually turn off Moto X's always listen feature? It apparently is a drag on standby performance.

Most of your points were specs. The X performs just as well as the 5 in pretty much everything except gaming. Wireless charging isn't that great and OP didn't mention the need to stream from his phone to TV so that's irrelevant

My point is the Moto X at $170 more than the Nexus 5 is a deal breaker to me. In my opinion I wouldn't pay more than $275 for a Moto X with the Nexus 5 at $349. The Moto X has cheaper, lower performances components inside compared to Nexus 5. Every Nexus 5 works on all but the Verizon networks but the Moto X has a few different models depending on what service provider you choose which is improtant detail if you have a unlocked phone to move to the service provider that is right for you at any time. Especially important if you move to a new location and don't have good service with your same service provider.

You think a Wireless Qi isn't that great and I think it is a major feature that will save my microUSB port from wearing out. Yes, I think having HDMI to a TV is a great feature that the Moto X lacks compared to the Nexus 5. The one and only feature the Moto X has that the Nexus 5 doesn't is the "OK Google" from the lock screen since I have to unlock my Nexus 5 to get to "Ok Google". I don't think the faster focus camera with 2 more Megapixels with the Moto X is a big deal but other do. Ok I will except the Moto X has a little better battery life but my Nexus 5's battery is more than my needs that last more than one whole day. There isn't one thing that the Moto X that I see that makes it a better phone than the Nexus 5. Then again both are sold by Google but the Nexus 5 has much better specs over the $170 more expensive Moto X.

I have both phones. I use the N5 for personal use and the X for work. Both are great phone especially since the X had received Kit Kat. If active notifications doesn't matter I think it comes down to personal preference and what fits best. The only place I can think where the X really excels is the radio. Which is why I use it as a work phone. I go into the foothills often and the X always has better reception. Both phones are on AT&T. Also the camera is a little better than the N5. But in all honesty I don't buy a phone based on camera performance. They're great for those Kodak moments but otherwise I used a dedicated camera. For the Kodak moments though both phone perform well enough.

Are you buying on-contract or off?

They are actually pretty different device because of some hardware difference (wireless charging) and software tweaks, but I feel like the Moto X is better for casual users. Nexus 5 I feel like is a more multimedia device. Personal take, of course.

In terms of overall speed and performance, both are excellent, though I would say the Nexus 5 camera is easier to use than the Moto X's, if a bit slower to focus. Battery life will depend on your coverage/app usage, but I would say the Moto X has a slight advantage.

Sorry, probably wasn't any help here haha. I just bought both =x

Grab a Nexus 5 off contract, and then if you don't like it, you'll have an upgrade available (hopefully). Either one would be fine for your uses, but the main differences are physical size and Active Notifications. I prefer the Moto X, but if you aren't sure, then buying a Nexus 5 off contract first will allow you to switch devices since you won't be locked in. Of course, if you are looking at the Moto X because of the sale today, then I would go for the Moto X.
