Nexus 5X no ringing sounds

Several weeks ago, I slept through an alarm and I thought that I left it on silent instead of Do not Disturb mode or something that could've prevented it from creating any sound. This morning, I woke up to my alarm not producing any sound apart from the sound the vibration is making, which is not enough to wake me up.
I switched off the DND mode and saw that my phone produced no sound for incoming calls or messages while the ringer volume was above zero percent. I also tried playing a tune on Google Play and the sound was fine. After a restart, everything was fine. I do not wish to have to think about this all the time.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem.

I believe it started after the October or November security update.
All system sound stop playing even if volume is at sensible levels. After a reboot everything will be correct for a few days and then the same happens. Media players will play sound, facebook messenger looses sounds like the system does. Not sure about other apps.

A large PITA to be honest.
Anyone come up with a fix for this?
