Nexus 6: Price

All the other nexus had cutting edge current specs for $400

The Nexus One, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus (at launch) were all above $500. The Nexus line didn't start with the Galaxy Nexus in the Play Store.

I have no problem with the price. I plan on selling my old phone to cover part of the cost. I have been saving up money for quite some time with the idea of paying full price for a phone. I didn't think the phone would come to Verizon so I was about drop the money on a Droid Turbo but now that it is coming to Verizon for about the same price as the Turbo I am not bothered by the price what so ever.

So it's basically priced the same as the OEM flagship phones. Ok then, so can anyone tell me where I can find these on the Nexus 6?

Boomsound
DSEE HX digital sound enhancement engine technology
built-in Digital Noise Cancelling technology for supported earphones
Waterproof
SD card
S-pen
enhanced voice control
20mp camera
tap on-off
multiwindow multitasking

these are just some various extras the OEM's include on their devices, and deserve the slightly higher price tag. What does the nexus 6 bring to the table that others don't have, while NOT including those extra goodies listed above? Let's see:

2k display -yup, on the Note 4 and G3
Wireless charging - yup, been done
OIS - yup.
water 'resistance'? yup done as well, except a better 'waterproof' rating in the others
over 3k MaH battery? yup done.
dual front speakers? yup been done.
superior core apps like a better music player and sms? In this case sadly no. Play Music and Hangouts need some serious work.

Around $550 would have been a more accurate and acceptable pricetag for the Nexus 6. This is basically just a spec beast with no special features, so why should it claim the same price parity with similarly specced phones that do include special features? I'll swallow the argument that the more recent specs and the increased display size+quality requires a higher price jump. But not a $250 price jump when it still lacks the extras found on OEM flagships. No, you folks have it all wrong. This phone isn't $650 because it should be, it's $650 because otherwise all of Google's partners would be screaming foul for making a spec beast for $500 or less, features or no features.

The only thing is vanilla android and no bloat (hopefully). But I hear you

Uh all the previous nexus? Was it that hard?

No they didn't, both the Gnex and Nexus 4 were rather outdated at the the time of release. It was really the Nexus 5 that could claim what you propagate.

Yeah, and the Verizon GNex was $650...

I wouldn't be surprise that the $650 price is the carrier off contract price and the google play edition is around $550. Wasn't the nexus 5 like this and the tmobile version costing $100 more?

That 's right for both the N4 and 5, I doubt the price will be different this time though, they would have announced it if it was.

I don't think Motorola would say it's 650 if it was just carrier pricing. Wouldn't they be on par with Google play prices?

Of course, the One (M8) isn't a phone that's going to be to everyone's tastes. It's expensive, coming in at least £500 SIM free (AU$899, around US$820), but that's to be expected from a flagship phone like this.

Amazon.com have the international unlocked Note 4 at $899

The G3 started at $640 and it has Knock code. However, I've read that Lollipop will have something similar.

So, at launch the phones with extra 'features' have the extra price. So....

Ya it says in lollipop specs that it will have a pick up to wake up and a knock twice to wake up or unlock.

still lacks the extras found on OEM flagships.

I think a lot of the people who buy Nexus or root their phones would pay extra just to avoid the extras found on OEM Flagships.....

I know for me personally...... I looked at the Note 3 last year and the Note 4 this year.... GSM unlocked the Note 4 is $800+ and even if you go with the unlocked Verizon price of $699.... I'd rather pay $649 and avoid touchwiz at all cost....

I actually thought about it too.. $649 is what T-Mobile is advertising their model for and they say it's the 64 gig model.... They were roughly $150 more on the 16 gig Nexus 5 when they carried it... Sprint was selling the Nexus 5 for roughly $150 more as well.... In the play store it was $349 for the 16 gig and Sprint and T-Mobile sold them for $499....

The Google blog post and their Nexus 6 site doesn't list price or an actual date.. Just says "Late October" it was Motorola who advertised it as $649 and October 29..... $649 "COULD" be Manufactures SUGGESTED retail price... Either way I'll be spending the $649 if that is what it cost.... Sell my 32 gig Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7 and just run with one device...

No.

For that price point, I could get 2 one+ phones, which are very similar speced. both are 3 gb ram, 64 gb storage, insanely large screen (5.5" vs 5.9") snapdragon 801 vs 805.

Cyanogenmod is just as good, if not, better than pure android and the updates are probably on the ball park of Google. I like the water resistance of the nexus 6, but at $700 for the 64 gb version, I have a hard time justifying its price tag over one+

2 phones > 1 phone

Granted, I can understand if you're on verizon/sprint and sick of those carrier bloated phones, but I'm on tmobile. I see no reason how this phone is THAT much better than a one+

I partially agree. The problem with this line of thinking though is that everyone who makes this point always points the finger at the same company. Samsung may be the biggest android seller but they're just one of many choices that don't have that bad rep for undesirable software

My first Android phone was the Nexus One..... then I moved to the HTC EVO 4G (The original) because it was HTC and at the time T-Mobile didn't work well where I worked and lived.... Sprint was better.... but it wasn't long before I had it rooted to remove the bloat and sense.... I then upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and did the same.. Rooted and removed the bloat and touchwiz.... I couldn't stand touchwiz.....

it's like everything... It's personal preference... I was some what disappointed in the $649 starting price.... a good $150 above what I was trying to convince myself was my "Ceiling" for the new phone.... I am kind of glad preorders are not until October 29th as that gives us time to see a few reviews and hands on tutorials across the web.... But I am 99.9% sure I'll pay the premium price unless a bunch of reviews find a lot of flaws in the hardware and software.... If it's as good as it seems on paper and Android "L" has all the positive gains in performance and battery life... This looks like a very high end premium device....

If the reviews are less than favorable I'll probably wait until December for the "Just too big" ads on Craigslist or Swappa..... and see if I can snag a used one for $100 or more less.....

OnePlus has the advantage of being a relative outsider, at least in the US market.

Companies like Motorola, LG, HTC, and Samsung do a lot of business with carriers, and carriers like to keep phone prices high to make contracts more appealing to the average consumer. There's less of an incentive for these companies to be disruptive like OnePlus.

Still, it's clear that there is a demand for phones in the $300 to $400 range with competitive specs. We need more companies to enter this space, which is why we need OnePlus to be successful so that other companies can follow in its wake.

Yeah if you are willing to jump on one foot while hula hooping at the same time.. While also following and spaming all your friends on how great One+ is....

I'd of GLADLY thrown them money back in June..... The invite system and other issues turned me off... got tired of the games.... I wish them luck and really do hope they do great and survive... It's better for the overall eco system and competition... but for now.. I'd much rather spend twice as much and have a device from a company I KNOW will be around and I KNOW will get me updates for the next couple of years on a timely basis AND can afford to swap out my device quickly and relatively painlessly if there is an issue within my warranty period....

Nexus is supposed to be an "unlocked phone" i.e. carrierless.

Moto dealing with carriers? since when? look at the unlocked moto x, g etc. etc. it's only samsung, htc, and lg who deal with carriers (the middle man)

I'd rather deal with no middle man. The middle man is evil.
