Nexus 6P - Do any alarm clock apps work on this thing?

Always get a chuckle out of folks who make these things out to be such a big deal. We consumers are a tough lot to please...

Here's my view: happy to find a workaround for ACX alarm, going to try it tonight and expect it to work great. Problem solved!!

BTW, what other apps are out there that let you randomize audio files on your phone? That's literally my only alarm requirement.
What exactly gave you "a chuckle?" The fact that I expect an alarm clock app to go off when it's supposed to?

So to put it in perspective: Your main alarm clock app requirement is that it lets you randomize audio files. My main requirement is that the alarm goes off.

Having to be absolutely sure that your phone is plugged in when the alarm is due to go off is not a solution to the problem.

If he's anything like me he chuckled at the fact that people threw such a fit about this.

An alarm at its heart has a single job. Make loud noises at a specific time.

The stock alarm does this. You literally do not need to download any apps to make this happen.

Just saying, we consumers are well....interesting.

Yeah, I think you two are talking about different things.

My main reason for looking beyond stock was that I find it easier to grab the phone and shake it to dismiss the alarm, rather than having to fumble for the volume key or strain to see the screen. But the stock app makes me do just that.

Ah gotcha. Now that I can totally understand, as someone who is borderline blind and useless without their glasses.

I find it a bit silly when someone acts like their life is ruined when a piece of tech doesn't work as expected, that's all. No offense intended, there's been more and more of that type of complaining going around; I supposed that's what drives forward progress.

For the record, I meant I was happy to find the trick about setting a silent alarm on stock app 1 minute prior. And guess what, it worked like a charm.

Thing is, alarm apps are one of the most important types of apps there are. I had one app not go off and make me late for work, which is bad for obvious reasons, and another alarm app go off an hour early and make me tired all day (which also affected my work). Both are serious problems.

I totally forgot about the silent alarm thing. Pretty clever workaround.

I used the Transperant Weather widget that links to the default Android clock. Alarms work fine for me.

If it hasn't been updated for M then there's no way it can work with M's doze mode. I see quite a few users complaining in the reviews for Gentle Alarm that it doesn't go off...

Now that you say this, I actually haven't used it in Do Not Disturb mode so I can't say it works with that.

As for Doze, I see typical Doze behavior in my battery reporting. I don't think it's interfering. If I forget to plug my phone in overnight, the phone has been in full doze mode all night and the alarm does ring.

But, again, I have not tested in with Do Not Disturb and since that seems to be a big issue, it may not work.

Since the enlightenment about old alarm apps, I too am now looking for an alarm app that's both recently updated and can randomize music playlists. Anyone?

I am borderline blind and can't see (well, can't read ANYTHING) without my glasses. Nevertheless, my 6P's native alarm wakes me at 5:00 AM every day and all I do is reach over to the big red dot centered on the lower third of the screen and swipe it to the right.

Works fine for me. :)

I wasn't saying I couldn't use it that way. I don't want to have to focus my eyes at all nor manipulate the screen. This is partially because I am always very tired and just want whatever is easiest for me, and part simple preference.

I understand. Really, I do.

But, here is the way I look at such things: I can spend a few seconds each morning finding the red dot and swiping it, or I can spend hours searching for, testing, complaining, posting on forums, etc., until I find just the right alarm app.

Even just two hours invested = 7,200 seconds = about 4 years at 5 seconds per day.

Is it really worth the trouble? Four years from now both your phone and whatever app you eventually find will be history. Net return on investment? Zero (actually, negative).

But not all time spent is equal. I actually enjoy trying out different apps. So that part doesn't bother me; quite the opposite. I'd rather spend an hour testing an app than squinting at my screen for a green button I have to drag.
