Nexus 6P - LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

was actually stuck on H, including two restarts... -- I changed back to the original APN and got back on LTE... then I restarted again and I have literally no internet... I don't think I mistyped anything, I only deleted out and changed order...
Did you add "admin"

This is what it should be exactly copy and paste this

default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri

did exactly that. switched back and forth twice more now, and while I have "LTE" it's slow as hell - slower than before even. doing a speed test now

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Make sure to power off and then back on after you change it. I'm having no issues with speed or quality of service.

powered on and off a few times. it was no joke so slow facebook's webpage wouldn't load, nor would content in the google play store. Phone has gotten about as hot as it does when I've been gaming on it for a while, or even hotter.

stuck back on the original with H, which is faster than the "LTE" I had before. loaded the google play store and downloaded the speed test at least.

but yes to reiterate, I did punch it in correctly and I did restart after any change made - given we're on these forums I doubt the majority of us are as ignorant as the average consumer let's say.

went back the original setting, was solidly on H for a while with a 1.51mbps download, 0.90 upload
then I got "LTE" back for a while, retested and got 0.41mbps download and 0.04mbps upload... will change the APN once more to include admin and the corrected order, and try again...

That's weird. Not sure what you can do other then wait for Google or call ATT. I'm going to change mine back, restart the phone and see if it reverts back H.

let me know. I'm gonna try it again later at home, see if that makes any difference

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

FWIW.... I was having this H/LTE switching back and forth problem. I chatted with AT&T today and the guy checked my account, IMEI, etc. and said everything looked good. He then told me to turn off my phone and he reset my account (or something like that), I restarted the phone and it was on LTE.

He said if it keeps happening, I should try swapping out the SIM card with a new one.

I'm not sold on any of this working until I hold this LTE signal continuously. Time will tell.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.01 update

a reboot or reflash? I've rebooted several times, connection is intermittent

This is the behavior I see. I'm on Verizon and since the 6.0.1 upgrade the LTE connection is much less reliable.. it drops out sometimes and I sometimes I have to reboot to fix it... sometimes it fixes itself on its own.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Posted this in a different thread, but it is relevant here too ...

I had this same problem with my Nexus 6P on AT&T. I was not getting LTE, only HSPA+. I figured my IMEI number was not added correctly to my account when I upgraded. So I called AT&T tech support, and first off let me give credit where credit is due, as I had my fair share of issues with AT&T. Talked to Jason, who was a super cool guy, not a robot, spent about 20 minutes troubleshooting my phone and my account settings. When the issue was resolved he even called me back to follow up. Could not be happier with the support I got.

Now onto the issue at hand. Turns out my IMEI number was correctly set on my account, and LTE was set as my Preferred network type under Cellular network settings. The issue was with my APN. The below change applies to both ATT Nextgenphone and ATT Phone APNs. Only this single line was changed from my original APN settings:

APN Type
default,admin,fota,mms,supl,hipri

The original setting did not include admin, and was in a different order. I was told the order actually matters. After this I am now getting LTE on both APNs and not HSPA+. I am using ATT Nextgenphone as I understand that with Marshmallow 6.0.1 VoLTE works on this APN.

Are you sure VoLTE on AT&T works now? If so, I might be back in the game for one of these. Can you make sure wifi is turned off and make a test call and see if it drops down to HSPA?

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I was experiencing the same issues with my new Nexus 6p - AT&T LTE not working on 6.0.1, only getting HSPA. Tried all the tricks in this thread, changing APN, dialing that *# number and resetting there, nothing would give me LTE.

Just stopped into the AT&T store on a lark, at first he said not much he could do as I had tried everything he would have, then he had an idea of trying his SIM card from his iPhone 6 Plus in my phone, tried that, boom LTE right away.

Had him give me a new SIM card, and LTE connected right away as soon at the phone booted. Weirdest part was my old SIM worked perfectly fine for LTE in my 2014 Moto X.

Not sure how or why, but try getting a new SIM card if you are having issues.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

well I factory reset my phone, then did it, and I haven't reverted to H since... BUT, it is still as slow as H was, and I did suddenly lose all bars a few times before restoring...

I also have noticed this on Verizon. Usually I just turn airplane mode on then off and then my phone connects immediately to lte. Definitely saw this start with 6.0.1.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I'm always HSPA when restarting the phone. So far 100% of the time. I always have to:

1. Turn cellular data off.
2. Reboot the phone.
3. Turn cellular data on.

In order to get LTE back. Airplane mode doesn't help for me.

This is kind of frustrating and it's crazy how this hasn't been patched yet... Might end up selling the phone.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Another effort. I tried power off and reinserting the sim card. Powered up and so far so good. LTE steady as it goes. Will follow this thread closely.

I am sure it will be patched in the new Security patch for January.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Aggggghhh. Come on January update. Me think they focus on Project Fi and leave glitch behind to affect little Cricket to ATT tower. Want to be big Cricket.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

ATT here. I am experiencing a lot more H than used to. I used to have LTE pretty much all the time and now it's about 50% H and 50% LTE.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

So after I changed the APN settings. I was good for about a day. Back to H again.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

So I went to ATT this morning. I got a new sim card, and they updated my IMEI # in there system. LTE all day with no H.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I believe you are on top of it. Will try after the holidays to do the same.
H appy H olidays and a LTE new year.

No, I didn't dip into the punch. :)
