Nexus 6P - LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Hey all.... I just wanted to come back to this thread and make sure you are all aware of this post I made the other day. It doesn't have "LTE" in the headline so I don't want you to miss it.

I have had straight LTE for the past 36 hours now which is the longest it has held LTE to date. I used the settings in that post. I'm hoping that I solved the problem once and for all. <knock on wood>

Hope that helps!

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I just got the Nexus 6p for AT&T and just did the 6.0.1 update. I'm stuck on H. Between this and the Gmail notification issues or emails reappearing after delete, I miss my S6 sometimes. I wonder if getting a new SIM will help. Any ideas?

It's a known issue with no permanent fix as of yet.
There are a few topics about this on this forum if you do a quick search with a few stating temporary workarounds to get LTE back.
You could also check out the Google Forums Help Page where there are lots of folks with the same issue around the world

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Just got the gold Nexus 6p. I am having the H issue too - using AT&T. For me it happens after being on wifi for a long period of time, then using AT&Ts data.

I am also seeing No SIM Card every two days. Possibly a different issue. Still have my 5x as a backup that had zero issues besides being SLOW.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Hello all,
Just switched to Sprint and am getting same issue.

Is there any updates on this yet? I had Nexus 6P since beginning of January or very late December. I first had it with Project Fi and used it with absolutely no problem. Now I switched to Sprint Unlimited Plan because I was just using way too much data because of work and such.

Activating this phone with Sprint was a pain but they finally gave me a SIM card which was able to activate my phone (after I provided SKU to them...). It's been a few days now and not once have I gotten LTE. Always on 3G. My Galaxy S5 works with no problem and I get great LTE service with Sprint at the same exact location as my Nexus 6P.

I've tried rebooting, toggling airplane mode, changing preferred network setting the setting back to LTE, removing and putting back SIM card, and sadly all with no luck. I also wanted to try changing APN setting but I couldn't find it in my phone anywhere. I've ordered a new SIM card today but not sure how exchanging same exact SIM cards would work.

Any idea when the fix will come? It's already almost end of February :'(

What is the sim card SKU number you are using? Have you ever gotten LTE since you switched to Sprint? I am on sprint as well and I've not had any issues connecting to LTE.

Well that's very unfortunate for me...

This is the SIM card info that I'm currently using:
Part #: SIMGLW446C
UPC: 019962040146
SKU: CZ2144LWC

(SKU number is not mentioned on my SIM card, but the Part # and UPC match the data I found online).

Hmm. That's the same number on mine.....

This is exactly why I will never not own an iPhone. Something like LTE breaks for users and Apple won't **** around and take MONTHS to fix it. So much for having a Nexus and all those fast fixes/updates.

Are you running 6.0.1? I have that Android Version with Feb 1st, 2016 security patch level. You'd think they would have it fixed by now since this issue is known since December. I'm going to try reverting back to 6.0.0 and see if that fixed the problem.

Thanks but no thanks. The whole iOS and OSX platform doesn't appeal to me...I've never had issues with Android until now. I used to have Galaxy S5 for over 2 years before my Nexus and it is still running great.

EDIT: There's no such thing as perfect software. If you're going to implement new features, more bugs are going to be created. Software developers cannot make sure every test case is error proof. That's why there's patches. Apple has had their own fair share of problems :)

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

Hello all,
I flashed 6.0.0 factory image onto my Nexus 6P (not 6.0.1) and the problem is fixed. I turned off update notifications until this issue is fixed.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

One thing that concerns me more than anything is that despite what my phone is showing (H or LTE), I get the same data speeds and they were much slower (half or less) than other phones using the same SIM in the same location. I actually feel like it was always on H or H+ regardless of what was being displayed. I would be interested in seeing if others are seeing the same thing or if the data speeds actually change between H and LTE.

I recommend downloading an app called 'OpenSignal' and the Speedtest app. I periodically run speed tests and I ran it when I had 6.0.1 running on 3G. On 6.0.1 3G I never got even close to 1 Mbps. Now I have almost full LTE bars and get 5Mbps download speed.

OpenSignal gives you a good indication of what kind of service you're getting and you can even check coverage.

I used Speedtest. I got around 5 Mbps download speeds when the 6P was showing H and also when it was showing LTE. There was virtually no difference. I put the SIM in the S6 Edge+ and the LG V10 and they each got 13 - 14 Mbps. Everything else was the same (location, etc.). I ran this test several times over different days and the results were always the same.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

A big difference for me comparing H to LTE download speeds on AT&T
H runs in the 10-12mbps range and LTE consistently 55 to 60mbps

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I don't see that this is an issue for the 5X or other phones running 6.0.1, or maybe it is and I just missed it. Why would it be unique to the 6P? It was not a problem on the 6P running 6.0. Something doesn't make sense. The 6.0.1 software and Hauwei's radios must not work right together.

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

My god...you guys must be right by the tower then. I don't even get close to that speed.
Looks like Google is has no new information about this bug, the fix will probably come in with 6.1...I doubt they will release a fix with the March update. Even if they do, I will give it a good 2-3 weeks for everyone else to try before I update my phone.

Side note, going onto my 2nd full day after reverting back to 6.0.0 and still get no issues with 3G and LTE.

P.S. Love the avatar there pounder001 :)

Re: LTE issues on 6.0.1 update

I owned a 5X with 6.0.1 on it and had ZERO issues. I got the 6p (using same ATT sim card from my 5x), and see this issue with the 6p. Definitely a device type only issue.

I am not that close to the tower as I only get 3 bars of LTE at my home office but I just pulled 30.22mbps down off of it. I really hope Google fixes this very soon if not I see a S7edge in my future ;)

5x has its own set of problems with the 6.0.1 update
