There's nothing to fix, the NC mic is on the back of the phone where you cover it when you shoulder it like you described. That's not a defect, it's you covering it. And you know it, so I'm not sure what your motive is for making it sound like a defect...

Android Police just put a post up on Google+ about Google acknowledging there an issue with the Nexus 6P regarding this. You can go to their site and check it out.

It was mentioned in that article as well as the links they provided that it may simply because some people are just covering the NC mic.

Acknowledging and investigating are not the same.

I've used my phone for multiple calls since I've had it, and call quality has been great. Maybe a bad batch, or something.

+1000, people can do some of the dumbest things. If you want a phone that you can rest on your shoulder then this phone won't work for you; however, if you want to keep the phone then get a Bluetooth device! Problem solved!

You have never seen people hold there phone between there head and a shoulder when both hands are busy? Maybe every single person that works in construction does that. All these people cannot be all dumb. I work on my laptop all day sometimes in intervals while speaking on the phone need to rest the phone between my head and my shoulder to use my 2 hands quick. Dumb is jumping in the pool expecting your phone to be waterproof when it is not.

It's actually an extremely common position for phone calls. I work in a field where it's very phone call based and 99 % of the people around as I type this have their phone stuck between there head and there shoulder while they type. They still take it off there shoulder when done typing (Galaxy S6, blackberry bold, blackberry Q5, IPhone 6, Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge, Iphone 6S+, Galaxy S4, IPhone 5 these are devices all being used the way I am explaining by different people around me as I type this reply and none have an issue)

Other phones don't have that issue so there is no reason to forgive this phone.

That's part of the problem. Some people are calling it a defect, and when told it's part of the design numerous times by several different people, pretty much ignored that and responded "On my next replacement, hope this fixes the "problem".

But it won't.

The NC mic location is part of the design, it's not a defect. However if you use your phone in a manner that covers the NC mic then you could be justified in calling it a poor design decision and I guess for some people that may very well be true but some people are insisting it on labeling it as a bug or defect, which it isn't. Also this is most certainly NOT a Steve Jobs "you're holding it wrong" issue either. With that iPhone there was actually an attenuation design defect that would affect far more people than just people covering up a mic location. Even so, it was still overblown regardless.

Could Google+Huawei have come up with a better design? Sure. Is it something some tech media outlets want to jump on to get Ad-clicks? Also yes. I've also heard some people argue that there is a Google support thread about this to support their claims but there's one big problem with that - there's also a lot of people who are having other issues not related to NC mic placement but are lumping their problem into the same category.

As it stands, the NC mic is already located in a spot that you would have to either deliberately cover, would need 7" wide hands to cover if not deliberately, or own a case with defective cutouts to cover, so this remains an issue for a pretty specific group of people.

Well this phone isn't one of them. You're describing a special use scenario that you could solve with a BT headset. Not all phones are made with every specific use-case scenario in mind. As has been suggested to you by several of us already, If you love everything else about this phone except the NC mic location, then get one. If not, another brand is your solution.

A blue tooth headset is not a solution for the field of work I am in. Also another device is not an option right now in Canada. I used it for over 30 minutes talk time so no device swap tried to swap it for a Note and they refused.

Your options are pretty closed then. The 6p has a design element that doesn't suit your purposes so basically the only thing left to you is to stop shouldering unfortunately, which is something you said is your only option. I saw you mentioned earlier somewhere that you were thinking of just selling it privately and cut your losses, but I guess that's a route you may have to take. You could post it on Kijiji or something, pay off the difference and buy a Samsung. I can only speak personally but I would probably just keep it and find a way to deal with the way you use a phone because in most regards this phone knocks it out of the ballpark, but I'm not you so if that's really a deal breaker for you, you can try selling it.

Tested it on mine and call quality was excellent whether I covered the nc mic or not, and however I held the phone. So yeah I don't think it has anything to do with covering the mic.

I will have to try tonight when I get off work (in about 30 minutes) -- to see if they notice a difference.

Yeah as many people should test it as possible. I just got my new 6p today so I'll continue to test and try covering/not covering the back mic and holding it in different positions on calls over the next few days. Will report back with results.

I just tried a series of tests. I called my daughter and I told her that I was going to do some tests for call quality. First I was talking to her for about 10 minutes so she could really tell what the phone sounded like. I wasn't covering the back of it in any way. I even took my case off while I was doing this. Then I set the phone down on a pillow and continued to talk to her. I did not turn on speakerphone. I did not tell her what I was going to do. I asked her at that point if she could tell any difference in how I sounded. She said no. Then I put my hand over the back of the phone while it was up to my ear. I covered the entire back of the phone with my hand. She could not tell a difference. I then put the phone on my shoulder like the original poster was describing and she could not tell a difference. Then I took it one step further and I put a piece of packing tape over the hole for the noise cancelling mic and asked her if she could tell a difference. She said no. I did all this while I was in my house with the music on loud enough for her to hear it through her earpiece while we were talking. I know these tests aren't scientific, but they do cover a few different scenarios. We talked for a total of about 30 minutes during this whole thing. So there you go, my experience with this was it made no difference if the noise cancelling mic was covered or not.
