Nexus 6P: Reviews and Unboxings Thread

Re: Nexus 6P Unboxing MKBHD

From what I've seen doze only really operates during very extended periods of time (i.e. hours) of non-use and even then apps can override that unless you block them from doing so.

true. I've read quite a bit of Marshmallow reviews. And I hope Google will be able to reign in developers that think their notifications are "priority" and can interrupt Doze. But I'm thinking that while I'm at work, Doze will more than likely kick in when I'm focused in on the task at hand and ignore my phone for a few hours. I guess we'll see. I still haven't had an Android device recently (last year and this year) that could match the battery life of my iPhone 6.

MKBHD: "Battery life is.... promising"

uh oh

Vergara: "I got about 3 hours of SoT with heavy use"

uh oh x2

I think you've been putting too much stock today on what Vergara said. I'm struggling to remember any smartphone that has surpassed around 3 hrs of SOT under "heavy use" and that includes Xperias and Notes which are among the best known models for battery life. I've put both through heavy use days and watched them drain faster than my bladder after a dozen pints.

I'm one of the few people in my circle of friends who have an Android device (Note 4). Virtually all of them have iPhones and they constantly have battery issues. They typically can't get through a day without have to plug in. My fiancee has the 6+ and always has to have a portable charger in her purse because she will inevitably run out of battery.

Re: Nexus 6P Unboxing MKBHD

and this is why in real world usage, I think the 5x and 6p will do better than people think (at least I hope). I'm hoping that with Marshmallow and the Doze feature, we'll see better standby times on battery than before with Lollipop (and previous Android generations). If Marshmallow can get close to (or match) the iPhone's standby battery usage, I think the 5x and 6p will do well. Time will tell! It'll be really hard to utilize Doze in the first week of getting the phone because a person will be tweaking, installing apps, and in general, put in through the ringer. Something we have to make sure we do is allow the phone to go into Doze mode to truly test it's standby time on battery.

My Nexus 6 battery is greatly improved and the standby time is excellent, still not as good as my Iphone's but very close. Google has finally got that phone running fantastic after a few updates. I'm still running 5.1.1 and hope 6.0 doesn't set it back. if they can do that with the Nexus 6, I'm confident the 6P will be good also. I just hope it's good out of the box.

I've heard this also. I think it depends how we each use our phones. When I set up my Iphone, I pretty much leave it alone and don't do much with it, until i need it. With my Android phones I'm constantly playing and tweaking with it. People who are heavy Iphone users don't seem to get all that great of battery life from what I've read. Having said that, your story, about your fiancee, is the first I've read about anyone having trouble with the 6+ battery.

It just goes to show, that everyone's uses are different. That's why I honestly would rather have a phone in my hand before watching reviews. Being a small Youtube reviewer myself, I feel like I've bought enough phones than the normal person, and know just as much as some of the reviewers.

Don't get me wrong, I like the reviews, but it's only because it gives me something to watch and live vicariously through the reviewers while waiting on my phone. I would just rather get the phone myself, because sometime I don't always agree with some of the reviewers, and my experience is different some of the time.

Re: Watch "First Look & Unboxing: Nexus 5X & Nexus 6P" on YouTube

The unboxings begin!

Look at the difference in display saturation between the 5X and 6P! The 5X display looks like the motor XPE I had and boy did I miss the saturation of amoled screens. Can't wait to get my 6P in hand!

You can change the Moto XPE to have a more vibrant look. Not sure if it will give you the same look and feel as an AMOLED though.

Re: Reviews thread

And they will continue to be and everyone will complain regardless lol. It's a never ending cycle of people being impossible to please.

Oh I know it's one of those benchmarks I do not bother with. Everyone uses the phone differently.

You got the right idea, sir (or madam). I prefer things can be more statically (for lack of a better term) measured rather than something w/ a ton of variables.

I ended up going with the Moto X Pure and I hear battery life is bad but I have have heard other stories as well. I figure I will know once I start using the device.

That's possibly my next phone but they have to keep drive features which there's a rumor they're dumping it w/ the marshmallow upgrade. It's very valuable for my commute.

FWIW, I've heard the exact same about the battery on that phone. My boss just got it and so far, he's a huge fan. This is coming from the Nexus 5... another FWIW lol

It's because the graphite is the best looking of the three.

Why yes, I did order a graphite before they went out of stock.. Why do you ask? 😉
