Doze is broken on Nexus 5 (2013). It never activates.
Mine worked at night. I plugged it in but forgot to flip the switch and the phone didn't loose that much battery life.

When you're talking about $500ish phones though designed for right now isn't really an issue. I'd just upgrade sooner
I can attest to doze working well. My Nexus 9 can sit there for days now without loosing battery.
I was just coming here to post this. Android Authority's review is one of the big 3 I usually look forward to (along with AC and MKBHD). I think Josh Vergara has nearly the same taste in smartphones as I do, so I value his opinion. His comments on the battery life were especially encouraging, since I'm not really a power user. If I can get 4.5 hours of SOT every charge, I'll be in heaven.
and they're none too happy about the burn-in and overall battery life...
I remember when Vergara said 3 hours SoT (his review got up to 4.5) so this is definitely troubling. The average times seem to be all over the map, but I'd bet heavy use is probably in the 3-4 hours time frame. That's ok as long as you have access to the supplied usb-c charger and 45-60 minutes to get a good top-off.
I don't put much stock in battery life in the reviews. Everyone is different when it comes to usage of the phone.
You can't ignore it, but I agree you can't base everything off of it.
However, I will say that when reviews all start coming in from average to great it's worrisome for me. I'd rather they be consistent, but at least here you can generally guess 4 hours of SoT. I guess if you at least have access to a usb-c charging base (either the Google supplied ones or something like that Ravpower brick) then you're ok.
I think the screen burn-in will be a problem though. I'd definitely claim warranty on it if that was happening.
the problem with using screen on time as a metric for how good a battery is is that you can really really game it.
if I streamed netflix over 3G using bluetooth speakers with the brightness at 100% until the battery died my screen on time would be way less than if I was say reading an ebook with the screen at 5% in airplane mode.
in my specific use case I spend a lot of my day listening to media, either local podcasts or streaming music. I could leave it like that all day, then turn the screen on for 5 minutes at the end when the battery is almost dead then claim I got 5 minutes of screen on time and it would look terrible if that was the metric measured for battery life.

Stamina mode works perfectly on my new Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, of which Doze is supposed to clone the functionally of. I have the same apps installed on both devices. Perhaps the Nexus needs a factory reset to activate Doze.It has worked great on my Nexus 5, I've had very little power drain at night. My guess is you have an app that is keeping Doze from activating.
Exactly. This is why I don't put much stock into this.
Editing for the rest of the day. Not sleeping till the Nexus 6P review is live :]
