Nexus 6P: Reviews and Unboxings Thread

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

I really felt the same way you did about AMOLED screens. I still kind of do but not as bad as I did. My first AMOLED screened phone was a galaxy nexus and I too had some burn in issues. They weren't as extreme as some, but to me they were noticeable.

But in the last two weeks I've seen a good number of different AMOLED phones that my friends have (notes, S6s, and S6 Edges mostly) and they all look wonderful with no sign of burn in. That's not to say it isnt possible, because given the right conditions it is, but I feel like its not going to be a big problem.

And if it is, I have nexus protect :)

Good luck with the MXPE, it looked like a solid phone!

Yeah I had a Galaxy Nexus and the burn in was atrocious (Ingress caused this on mine). I also see burn in on the phones running demos in the store that have AMOLED but the ones that have LCD that have demos running do not. For the average user it probably won't happen as they won't be running something that long for it to happen. The thing that usually burns in is the notification bar along with the buttons on the bottom. I figure I have 14 days to try out the Moto X.

They need a store where I can look at all the phones and try them out.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

Yeah the reviews are really making me question how "real" they are. There are some that are from people that have been more on the iPhone side but are now leaning the other way. I admit people change and the Nexus 6P is a great device, it just doesn't seem like the device for me. I went with the Moto X Pure Edition which should be here soon. I figure I have 14 days to try it out and see if I like it.

I had the Moto X Pure edition for a week. It is a very nice phone and you will like the LCD screen. I didn't have an issue with battery life but I didn't have the phone long enough to really test it. It seemed no better or worse than most late-model Android phones. I probably would have kept it, but I knew once I got the Nexus I wouldn't be using it that much, and you lose a lot of money on resale of a customized phone from my experience.

And another rediculously positive review about the 6p.

The more I read the more I'm really getting antsy about getting this phone in my hands.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

I've returned my MXPE and I'm just procrastinated on shipping it back. I'm hoping I can keep it until around when I get my N6P and I don't have to go back to the N5.

The N6P to me was everything good about the MXPE and then some, bigger battery, better build, debatable better screen...

Coming from a nexus 5 over the last 2 years I was nervous getting away from a nexus phone and with recent moto update news I'm glad I jumped ship.

I also feel like the N6P is designed for the future and the MXPE is designed for right now. Getting nexus imprint, usb type C, sensor hub, the N6P is everything google wants an android phone to be and I know i won't have to worry about updates or compatibility.

The MXPE is a good phone and I'm sure you'll like it.

Nexus 6P may be the Best Nexus Phone Ever.... Best Android Phone Ever

Wired.com's David Pierce says "The Nexus 6P is absolutely the best Nexus phone ever. Hell, it’s the best Android phone ever."

Same here... I tried it for 2 weeks and got my RMA and shipped it back yesterday. I have nothing bad to say about the Moto X Pure... great phone, screen was nice, and battery was sufficient. But like you, I decided that the Nexus 6p was just more future-proof, so I decided to get the full refund versus reselling the MXPE for less money later on. By the way, how can you have returned the phone, but not shipped it back?

I contacted Moto in my 14 day window, processed the return, just procrastinated on the shipping.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

Well I am going to get a new phone as I have a weakness for trying new Android phones and it was going to be the Moto X Style but then even though the Amoled screen does worry me slightly with potential burn in and over saturated colours the 6P is really calling me as I want the pure Android experience as I have never had that and to me the 6P is just a lovely looking phone that has really grown on me.

I can get the Style 32gb for £360 in the UK and the 6P 64gb will cost me £499 and I really don't want to pay £140 more for the 6P but I think it might have to be done (my wife will go mad) as I said I am weak. I have a boring iPhone 4s for work so my own phone is used mainly for emails web browsing and watching Netflix so I wanted a bigger screen than my Xperia Z3 and the 6P has that.

I did go into a phone shop the other day and saw an S6 screen recently and the colours did seem a bit bright but then I haven't had an Amoled screen since my Note 2 so I hope I like the screen on the 6P and I will pray I don't get burn in.

Nice review, I agree with him about some Android apps. I really wish some developers would follow the material design guidelines and the Android interface better.

I loved his review, it was so positive and glowing, BUT I hated that he gave the phone an 8 out of 10. His reasoning was that now on tap doesn't work as well as it could and that Android apps in general aren't "as good" as apple's, which in my opinion is BS. So for him, an android phone can only ever get a higher score when he subjectively deems that android apps are up to snuff? I dunno but his two reason why he docked points from the phone just really irked me. It's almost like he really loved the phone, but had to make something up so as to not rate it higher than what he rated iphone 6s plus.

Yeah, I don't think Iphone apps are necessarily better, but some of the developers don't update their apps as fast as they do on IOS. I did understand what he meant about some of the navigation in some apps not being consistent. It's mostly with older apps that I've used.

If all the apps developers followed the material design guidelines the UI experience would surpass IOS for me, since I'm mainly an Android user. I think that's what he was getting at.

It's such a vague basic statement to say the apps are better on iphone than android without citing a single example or acknowledging that everyone's experience will vary.

IMO built in apps such as the dialer, messaging (hangouts and the generic sms), maps, clock... are more functional and aesthetically better on android than ios.

Many of the third party apps I use have been updated for material design and look considerably better than their ios counterparts.

He did say in his review that it "might be the best android phone ever. In fact, it might be the best *phone* ever"

I think he's regularly an iOS user, because i was surprised he said the apps were better on iOS.

Edit: anyone see any reviews or videos where they test GPS performance specifically? I'd love to see how accurate it is.

I also think he's mainly an IOS user. I think that based on his statements about taking a little while to get used to the fingerprint scanner location. He said he kept reaching for the bottom speaker.

I use both IOS & Android and that's something I never do with my Nexus 6, even after using the Note 5 and Iphone 6 Plus, which have the sensors in the home button. If I did anything different it would be using the pin or pattern, and forgetting about the sensor located on the back, something I've noticed some reviewers doing.

Being mainly an IOS user IMO makes him think that way. I'm not sure of this, but I think he's mainly talking about third party apps that he's used on the Iphone first. Like mentioned before, sometime the devs take much longer to update their Android apps vs. the IOS counterparts. I'm not sure he meant the core apps, but like you mentioned, it was a vague statement.

Overall I thought it was a great review from someone who uses IOS.

Noticed that as well, and how he presents it like everyone will have that same experience. I'm not real familiar with this guy but I don't like how he presents himself or acts like everyone will think the same thing he does.

Yeah, not a bad review. I wouldn't hold anything against him. All reviewers make statements and assessments colored by their previous experience. That's just something to keep in mind when watching any review.

He did say it might be the best phone yet, and he's an iOS user. So that really does say something about the quality of the phone. Apple's phones have very solid quality hardware.

Positive review, obviously, good review, IMO no. There's just no sustenance there and it's people like this who make me sad he gets to play with the phone before I do.

The only thing I learned from that is apps are inferior (The NY Times maybe.... he didn't say) and that I'm going to now be compelled to press the speaker to wake my phone for some reason (I have the Moto X PE and have never once tried to use the speakers for anything button related).

Thanks for the valuable knowledge and insight gleaned from time you were privileged to have with the phone.

Obviously hearing someone say it's the best phone ever makes us all happy and feel better about our purchase and it's all good but I don't think it's a "good" review.

Most iPhone users will be "ok" with a nice Google phone, but he went right back to using the 6s plus the moment that review was over.

Re: The Verge Review on the 6P is out, I'm shocked!!!

Glad to see these reviews. Lots of positive stuff even from The Verge. I am very excited about getting this device now. Super great screen, fast, great camera, solid hardware. Not to concerned with overheating as i dont use phones for gaming. Twitter, facebook, email, other social networks, communication, banking, web browsing, viewing documents and some shopping like from fandango or ordering pizza. Even Youtube videos a few times a week. I have an iphone 6 and it runs games amazingly well, but i just cant get into it like i can on my xbox one or pc. I am just not into many mobile games except maybe angry birds or some puzzle game.

As far as The Verge is concerned, i like some of the stuff they produce, but other times they get really annoying and over blow certain issues and down right embarrass themselves. I agree with like 75% of what they say, but the remaining 25% makes them seem like wackos sometimes. But damn that Nexus review was amazing.

Has the 6P been officially released or not?? I'm not seeing a lot of reviews for it. I'm seeing a lot for the 5X though.
