It hasn't. Review units are out in the wild, but not actual purchased units. The 5X already was released, so that's why you see so many for it.
I have seen a few reviews of the 6P to which many are claiming it is the best android device ever made. Full stop. Of course it's all opinion but I would say a very respectable one at that. I hope the success from this years devices gives Google the push to compete head to head with Apple and finally start believing and pushing the Nexus line from now on.

Has the 6P been officially released or not?? I'm not seeing a lot of reviews for it. I'm seeing a lot for the 5X though.

I agree with everything you said and have had the same experiences with my Android phones. The only thing I can't relate to is your SOT. Three hours of SOT is a lot for me, and the only time I have that much screen time is when I first get a new phone and can't stop playing with it.
I have the Iphone 6+ and the battery is phenomenal. I think the big thing with the Iphone is the standby time. If you're not using the phone, it will drain very, very slowly. My 6+ once sat for three days on my desk and still had battery left, my Ipad even longer. The closet Android phone I've had that was like that was the LG G3, so I know it's possible for an Android phone to do it. I watched one reviewer who said the 6p battery reminded him of the LG G4, that's not bad, but the G4's battery wasn't like the G3's IMO.
Anyway, I'm typing too much again and making this post longer than I wanted. The bottom line for me is, I just want to get the phone in my hands for myself.
Without digging through threads... stock Android doesn't have tap to wake, then? What about multi-window? Thought I had read multi-window is in dev options. I use both features a ton on my G3. Also, the screen will NEED to be better in sunlight than the G3, but not sure how I'll figure that out.
When you're talking about $500ish phones though designed for right now isn't really an issue. I'd just upgrade soonerI've returned my MXPE and I'm just procrastinated on shipping it back. I'm hoping I can keep it until around when I get my N6P and I don't have to go back to the N5.
The N6P to me was everything good about the MXPE and then some, bigger battery, better build, debatable better screen...
Coming from a nexus 5 over the last 2 years I was nervous getting away from a nexus phone and with recent moto update news I'm glad I jumped ship.
I also feel like the N6P is designed for the future and the MXPE is designed for right now. Getting nexus imprint, usb type C, sensor hub, the N6P is everything google wants an android phone to be and I know i won't have to worry about updates or compatibility.
The MXPE is a good phone and I'm sure you'll like it.
