Nexus 6P - Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

The Dbrand installation video is pretty good. A hair dryer is very helpful also. The only part that can be tricky is installing the "nexus" letters because they're so small. Overall, the process is very easy.

About the hair dryer... I saw the video, and was wondering whether the application of heat would affect the glass covering the camera. I know it says only about 15 seconds or so, but still makes me wonder. I mean basic physics says - upon application of heat, glass melts and metal expands. Of course I may be completely wrong about my concerns.

can anyone here help me? Thanks in advance :)

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

No they really did mail me two replacements. I placed an order for 1 Moto Nexus 6 matte black skin. They mailed to me by error a wooden skin. I emailed them that was not the skin i ordered. They emailed me an apology and mailed to me 2 matte black skins. Way cool....but now I have the 6P so I'm now waiting for the black carbon camera skin.

yeah I was just kidding in my last post :p

Anyway am waiting for my setup to arrive as well - Black Carbon Back with only X cutout, Red Carbon frame and Red Carbon X logo. Said this Sunday it has been shipped, but I live in New Zealand so don't know when I'm getting my hands on it... until then I'm using a clear silicon case (I know... and it looks as sad as it sounds)

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

For people who use a dbrand skin, how do you protect the screen? Do you use a screen protector as well? I usually use a case with no screen protector, figuring that if i drop it face down, the case has enough of a lip to stop the screen from hitting the ground. I know that you can put a skin on the front of the phone, but does that raise it enough so that the screen wouldn't touch the surface when face down?

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

Here is mine. Looks much nicer in person.

I ordered mine today, just like yours, just with Titanium Black instead of Matte Black for the camera. Can't wait to put it on my 6P. How's the grip? Did it make it more or less slippery?

I don't think the hair dryer gets hot enough to affect the glass. Likewise the metal is designed to disperse heat generated by the phone. I have not noticed any ill effects.

Bump.

Really interested in dbrand skins, but was wondering whether you use a screen protector with it and which one you use.

Awesome thank you! That definitely alleviates some concerns :)

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

I love the look of my carbon fiber dbrand skin. However, it did not save my screen and corners from impact this morning when I got out of my car. Of course, it's not a case. Never have I cracked my screen, but I've always had a case. I'm certainly not a clumsy person; this was the first. While I love the look, I'm going back to a case. (my skin is torn anyway)

I stopped using screen protectors about three years ago.

I had three Spigen TGSP on before taking it off in less than 24 hours. If recommend that one, there was nothing wrong with it, but I just prefer the look and feel of the original glass. I'm really careful with my phone though, so I'm not all that concerned about my glass cracking. I have Nexus Protect if need be.

Using the Ti dbrand camera skin just to protect it from scratches and chips. No case as well cuz i dont like the bulk. I was also thinking about a skin but I use the brown leather sleeve its laying on top of. The tempered glass is from Pleson I got from Amazon.

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

My new dbrand skin. Just received today. Had a red carbon skin for the frame and red carbon X as well, but when I put it on, it didn't look as good as I thought. So I ditched the frame skin and replaced the X with a silver one :)

I just bought one of these but as a single guy with a shaved head, I'm apparently missing a key tool! Are there alternatives to using a hair dryer, or am I reduced to asking friends to borrow one for a day?

gotta suck it up and borrow one! no way around it unfortunately ... alternatives are buy one then return it, or try getting a girlfriend in the next 24 hours!

Re: Thoughts on the dbrand skins?

Mine arrived yesterday and I installed it in about an hour. I ordered the aluminum back and side, and the black matte camera skins. I had a little trouble lining up the back, and I ended up having to peel it off and reapply it, which caused a slight tear in the cutout for the letter X. It's not that noticeable when you look at it, but I can see it up close, and it annoys me when I put my finger there. I also had trouble putting down the letter cutouts perfectly, and they don't feel very flush overall. I ended up putting the aluminum skin on the sides, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep it on. There's a tiny gap between the power button and the volume button, and it makes pushing the buttons feel a little funny. Overall, it looks nice, just I'm not the greatest at doing these kinds of things...

Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely contact them. I'll post a pic when I'm home later. Another thing that's happened is the corner had started to peel up from taking it in and out of my pocket all day.
