Hi all
I'm just wondering if you think if the Nexus 7 2012 Edition will get the L update. Many are saying that it has passed it's 18 month limit, but many others are still saying it will get L. Same for the Nexus 4.

While Google might not give the update, you can always rely on Custom ROMs to provide you with a few more years of support.

True but Android L without ART will be a featureless husk since nearly all the new APIs require ART.

Google might decide to give it ART in the Android L update, it is possible and Custom ROMs made for the Nexus 7 support ART.

Hopefully Google does update the 2012 tablets, but even if not you will always have Custom ROMs. Which are awesome.

Google can't upgrade the N7 2012 to ART it would be illegal. Nvidia officially stopped support on the Tegra chip in the N7 which by licencing guide lines blocks any official support from thier partners. This is the only reason Google has not put ART on it because they would be more than happy to if they could.

So you will not see Android L officially on the Nexus 7 (2012) edition. But you will see custom ROM for sure. I still doubt all the APIs will work because there is alot of compromising going on currently to make ART work on the Tegra chip.

Isn't this the same thing that happened with the Galaxy Nexus? Texas Instruments left the business of SOCs and that's why it never got an update to KitKat.

And what about Nexus 10? Has Samsung also given up on the Exynos processor used in the Nexus 10?

Yes it is. It really is sad too.

Ah, that is quite sad. How long does Snapdragon give support btw, the Nexus 4 is likely to get Android L, right?

I hope so but the whole rumor that Google does not update after the 18 month window concerns me.
